Mercedes-Benz introduced their BlueTec Diesel system to the E-Class at the 2006 North American International Auto Show as the E320 CDI BlueTec. BlueTec is a two-phase system for cleaning diesel emissions. The first phase makes the E320 CDI legal in 45 of the 50 United States (plus the District of Columbia). The second phase uses urea for further reductions to meet the more stringent standards of California, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, and Vermont. Sales of E320 CDI BlueTec began in autumn 2006 as a 2007 model, but 50-state legal models with urea injection will only be introduced in 2009 model year.
The W211 model of the E-Class became somewhat infamous for its poor reliability. Consumer Reports classified the W211 model's reliability as "poor," its lowest rating, and declared it one of the "least reliable luxury cars", but the newer 2007 models have rebound on quality, with JD Power giving the E class, the best in the mid size luxury segment award.

When a new president takes office in January 2009, he will have a chance to substantially reshape education policy. The No Child Left Behind Act is currently due for reauthorization by Congress, offering the incoming administration an opportunity to put its stamp on key federal education legislation. State level policy developments, including current state fiscal challenges and the growth of state pre-k programs, provide further education challenges and opportunities.
The two parties' presumptive nominees, Republican Sen. John McCain and Democratic Sen. Barack Obama, have offered very different visions for education policy under their potential administrations. Yet these proposals, and the differences between them, have received relatively little press coverage or media attention-even as 83 percent of voters tell pollsters that education is either extremely or very important to their votes for president.
On July 24, the New America Foundation will host a discussion of the candidates' education proposals with education experts who helped shape those agendas. Lisa Graham Keegan is former Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction and education advisor to John McCain. Jon Schnur was Senior Advisor on Education to Vice President Al Gore and Special Assistant to U.S. Secretary of Education Richard W. Riley, and has advised Barack Obama on education since he became a U.S. Senator. Keegan and Schnur will describe the candidates' education agendas, discuss the outlook for education policy in the next administration and congress, and respond to questions from a moderator and the audience.
Richard Colvin, Director of the Hechinger Institute on Education and the Media at Columbia University, moderated the discussion.

In the beginning, Daz and Kurupt were two of several artists on the Death Row roster. Both made minor contributions to Dre's The Chronic before making substantially larger contributions to Snoop's Doggystyle. In fact, their omnipresence on Snoop's album spawned the opportunity to capitalize on that album's success; it was no surprise then when Death Row tagged Daz and Kurupt as Snoop protégés, tagging them tha Dogg Pound for promotional reasons. Granted, Snoop played a large role in tha Dogg Pound, as did Nate Dogg, but with the release of Dogg Food, it was undeniably clear that Daz and Kurupt needed no mentoring.
Either way, it wasn't long before Daz and Kurupt embarked on full-fledged solo careers. Kurupt had success with Tha Streetz Iz a Mutha while Daz released R.A.W. Yet with Dre's return in 2000 and the steady West Coast rap renaissance that began as a result, Death Row dug through their vaults — as they had done for similar Snoop and 2Pac releases — assembling what would eventually surface as tha Dogg Pound's 2002. The album featured appearances by the likes of 2Pac, Xzibit, Nate Dogg, a remix of Jay-Z's "Change the Game" featuring the Roc-A-Fella clique, and a Dr. Dre-produced lead single, "Just Doggin."

My rendition here is substantially in the tradition of Wu Jinglüe and his son Wu Wenguang. Qiu Sai Yin, whose title is difficult for me to translate with confidence, concerns the loneliness, despair, and yearning of Wang Zhaojun, a noble lady married off to a northern nomad prince. Moreso than most qin pieces, this one bears multiple interpretations. It is also associated with the exile and suicide of Qu Yuan (under the title Sao Shou Wen Tian) and of an ancient qin master's learning music through listening to the sounds of nature, while stranded alone on a distant island (as Shuixian Cao or "Water Immortal"). One of the most respected and exquisite pieces in the modern repertoire, Qiu Sai Yin makes use of the Shang mode - S R2 M1 P N2 S, which I'm keeping in sargam notation just to force you to learn it! Shang mode lacks the third interval (ga), the most emotionally decisive for any scale, leaving its flavor indeterminate and conveying majesty and mystery without straightforwardly positive or negative feelings. During the present performance my "intention" was mainly on the Wang Zhaojun story; it will be interesting to see what happens when I try out the "water immortal" instead.
