RFID Passport Shield Failure Demo - Flexilis - 268 sec
The FLX[2006‐0605] video security brief demonstrates a real‐world vulnerability associated with the failure of the shielding component in the current proposed electronic passport design. When partially open, as could be the case when in a pocket, purse, or briefcase, the currently proposed passport can be detected by a nearby inquiring RFID reader. The security brief also demonstrates an improved shield design that requires a passport to be significantly open before reading is possible.

What is RFID? - 599 sec
Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is an automatic identification method, relying on storing and remotely retrieving data using devices called RFID tags or transponders. An RFID tag is an object that can be applied to or incorporated into a product, animal, or person for the purpose of identification using radiowaves. Some tags can be read from several meters away and beyond the line of sight of the reader. Most RFID tags contain at least two parts. One is an integrated circuit for storing and processing information, modulating and demodulating a (RF) signal and can also be used for other specialized functions. The second is an antenna for receiving and transmitting the signal. A technology called chipless RFID allows for discrete identification of tags without an integrated circuit, thereby allowing tags to be printed directly onto assets at lower cost than traditional tags. Today, a significant thrust in RFID use is in enterprise supply chain management, improving the efficiency of inventory tracking and management. However, a threat is looming that the current growth and adoption in enterprise supply chain market will not be sustainable. A fair cost-sharing mechanism, rational motives and justified returns from RFID technology investments are the key ingredients to achieve long-term and sustainable RFID technology adoption.

1 of 8- RFID: The Rise of the Mark of the Beast- Billy Crone - 1378 sec
It's being heralded as a silent revolution, a state of the art global tracking device, and even as significant of an invention as the Internet or even the computer itself. What is this device? It's none other than RFID. But with all the hoopla aside, the question we need to be asking ourselves is this, "RFID: Man's Greatest Invention or Mark of the Beast?" And unfortunately, even though this technology is sweeping the planet, people are not only not enquiring about RFID technology, but hardly anyone, even Christians, have any idea what it is in the first place, let alone its Biblical ramifications! Therefore, this series, "RFID: Man's Greatest Invention or Mark of the Beast?" takes a look at three things to equip you with the facts concerning this planetary tracking device. First you'll see the Definite Concern of RFID and what this technology can do as well as what these corporations will do. Secondly you'll see the Dangerous Deployment of RFID and it's current and planned usage to monitor and track everything from retail, food, shipping, transportation, medical, government, money, and everything else in between. And thirdly, you'll see the Dark Future of RFID with not only plans to monitor and track animals with an RFID implant, but people as well. People, this is not a science fiction scenario of the future. It's present day reality with today's technology called RFID. And that's why the Mark of the Beast is not only real, it's really going to be implemented just like the Bible said. In fact, it might be sooner than you think. RFID (Radio Frequency ID) chips are slowly being rolled out and will eventually replace the bar-code. Here's a little representation of how it can eventually affect our personal liberties. For more information, I highly recommend the book "Spychips" by Katherine Albrecht. Here are a pair of patents which you can google yourself: Patent#20020165758: IBM - IDENTIFICATION AND TRACKING OF PERSONS USING RFID-TAGGED ITEMS. Patent#6659344: NCR - AUTOMATED MONITORING OF ACTIVITY OF SHOPPERS IN A MARKET.

IBM RFID Clipped Tag - 114 sec
The IBM clipped tag technology allows consumers to tear off the antenna of an RFID tag, thereby significantly reducing the tag's read range to just a few inches. This makes it extremely difficult to read tags within an individual's personal space without being noticeable. The clipped tag gives consumers the ability to simply "opt out" and protect their privacy. The chip, however, retains full functionality otherwise. This enhances consumer privacy while maintaining the benefits of the technology, such as product authentication or recalls.

How to hack RFID-enabled Credit Cards for $8 (BBtv) - 203 sec
A number of credit card companies now issue credit cards with embedded RFIDs (radio frequency ID tags), with promises of enhanced security and speedy transactions. But on today's episode of Boing Boing tv, hacker and inventor Pablos Holman shows Xeni how you can use about $8 worth of gear bought on eBay to read personal data from those credit cards -- cardholder name, credit card number, and whatever else your bank embeds in this manner. Fears over data leaks from RFID-enabled cards aren't new, and some argue they're overblown -- but this demo shows just how cheap and easy the "sniffing" can be. This episode is part of our ongoing series of interviews with some of the thinkers, hackers, and tinkerers at the O'Reilly Emerging Technology conference this year. For more episodes of Boing Boing tv, visit tv.boingboing.net.
