Biblical Characters in the Qur'an are not the same as those found in the Bible itself. When we look a little deeper, using source criticism, we find that they can mostly be traced back to either Jewish apocryphal writings, or Christian sectarian writings from the 2nd - 5th centuries, all written after the Bible had been compiled and canonized. For most of the stories we know who wrote them, when, and even in some cases why. They certainly have no divine origins, all written by finite human beings, and often simply for entertainment. Had the compilers of the Qur'an done their homework correctly, they would have gone to the authentic Biblical accounts, written far earlier, closer to the events they describe, and therefore far more authoritative. What we come away with is not a book which was sent down from Allah via the angel Gabriel to a man named Muhammad, but just another compilation of fables, myths and legends, nothing more, and certainly not on par with the Bible.

On Saturday, June 28th, 2008 Brother Shabir Ally and Jay Smith engaged in interfaith dialogue in the 120th General Conference (19th Biennial) Which was held at the Sheraton Parkway in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada.
The dialogue was direct and challenging, yet handled with respect, cordiality and sometimes even humour.
Representing the Muslim perspective was Shabir Ally: Shabir Ally has earned a B.A. in Religious Studies from Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario, with a specialization in Biblical Literature, and an M.A. in Religious Studies from the University of Toronto with a specialization in Quranic Exegesis.
He is now in his third year of Ph.D studies in Quranic Exegesis at the University of Toronto.
He is the president of the Islamic Information & Dawah Centre International in Toronto where he functions as Imam.
He travels internationally to represent Islam in public lectures and interfaith dialogues.
He explains Islam on a weekly television program called "Let the Qur'an Speak.
Representing the Christian side was Mr. Jay Smith, a Ph.D. candidate in Islamic studies at Brunel University in London.
He has participated in many debates that have included distinguished opponents such as Benazir Bhuto, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Perhaps the Best Qur'an reciter ever lived in South Asia.
His name is Qari Karamat Ali Naeemi, lives in Faisal'abad, Pakistan. Called Naeemi after Hazrat Naeemuddeen Muradabadi, he is a scholar himself. As he does not like to visit Television centers, he is seen rarely on the screen, so he is somewhat unkown to the outer world. I once heard from some respected A'alim that when he recites Qur'an, it seems that there is a rain of Noor. If one listens this completely, perhaps would cry to tears.
