For three days straight, we tried to beat the daylights out of the 2008 Porsche 911 GT2. In the end, this Guards Red missile shrugged off the experience and beat the tar out of us instead. All we had to show for our efforts were a bruised right palm, a $1,300 receipt for replacement rear tires and a permanent smile.
While selflessly obliging the lens-carrying members of our staff who asked if it'd be possible to get the 530-horsepower, rear-wheel-drive GT2 to do something interesting for the camera, we kicked this car's butt until we literally grew tired of the effort. And yet the 2008 Porsche 911 GT effectively replied, "Is that all you've got? Give me some more tires and I'm good to go."
And go it does.

We're only a few months away from the official launch of the 2009 Porsche 911, but recent spy video from the Nürburgring suggests that a refreshed version of the 911 GT3 will follow for the 2010 model year.
Like the forthcoming 911 Carrera, the 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 gets only minor styling changes this time around. The reworked front end has been simplified with only three air inlets instead of five, while the front marker lights have been narrowed slightly. Tape over the taillights indicates a few minor changes to their design along with the switch to full LED illumination. It's hard to tell if the spoiler is full production spec, but it's certainly high enough to carry the GT3 tradition.
Like the Carrera, the 2010 GT3's flat-6 engine will benefit from the addition of direct fuel injection. The new technology will deliver an extra 20 horsepower in the standard Carrera, so expect a similar bump to the GT3's current 415-hp rating. Displacement is expected to remain at 3.6 liters.
Although it's clear from the sound of the gearchanges that this GT3 prototype has a manual transmission, the introduction of the Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) dual-clutch transmission in the standard 911 opens the door for inclusion in the GT3 as well. The new PDK transmission is essentially Porsche's version of Volkswagen's DSG, but whether it's up to handling the GT3's additional power remains to be seen.
With deliveries of the 911 Carrera and Carrera S models scheduled to start this fall, sales of the 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 probably won't begin until late next spring at the earliest.

As it edges closer to production next year, the 2010 Porsche Panamera is starting to stray farther from home. This time our spy photographers caught up with the Panamera while it was undergoing cold-weather testing in the Arctic Circle.
Like most of the prototypes we've seen before, this Panamera had camouflage over the front and rear ends to conceal the final design details. In this case, however, the huge ducktail spoiler was absent, a change that gives a much better look at the unique rear window.
It appears as though the Panamera sedan will actually look something like a four-door hatchback. Cut lines clearly show a rear window that starts at the top of the C-pillar and extends all the way down to just above the license plate. It's an odd design cue to say the least, but it should keep the Panamera from getting lumped in with the rest of Germany's luxury sedans.
Other notable design elements include a side window that extends rearward all the way to the middle of the rear wheel and taillights that wrap around to the side of the rear quarter panel. Up front, it appears as though there might be a set of quarter-panel vents just after the front wheels along with the usual air intakes in the airdam to feed the V8 engine under the hood.
We still expect the Panamera will use the 4.8-liter V8 variants found in the current Cayenne SUV. With roughly 400 horsepower for the base model and 500 hp for the Turbo, the Panamera should have little trouble keeping up with its German competition. And like BMW and Mercedes-Benz, Porsche has also announced its intention to add a hybrid sedan to its lineup. The Porsche Panamera Hybrid will use the same system slated for the Cayenne Hybrid and is expected to arrive in late 2010.
Production of the standard Panamera is slated to begin next year, so expect to see the official introduction either late this year or in early 2009.

Porsche recently unveiled early drafts of its Cayenne SUV hybrid prototype. The SUV, which will debut towards 2010, aims to decrease fuel consumption by an estimated 25 percent, especially during city driving. The Cayenne Hybrid will feature electric-powered steering, air conditioning and vacuum pumps for the brakes. Porsche officials also report they plan to introduce a hybrid version of its upcoming Panamera four-door Gran Turismo, scheduled to debut in 2009.

For a few seconds, you give in to the spectacle of driving a 2009 Nissan GT-R. This car attracts its own entourage and then takes you along for the ride. It's not just the Skyline mystique, either. It's the fact that even in production sheet metal, the R35 GT-R looks like a one-off concept stolen from a Southern California design studio. It has as many hard contours as a Porsche 911 has soft curves. You have the key fob, and still you ogle it.
Soon, though, you point the GT-R down an on-ramp and plant the throttle. The effortless brutality with which the 2009 Nissan GT-R gathers speed is what you'll describe to your friends — once everyone's tired of talking about the styling, that is.
What you won't tell them is that you suspect your supercar might be a sociopath. It doesn't flow around corners like your E46 BMW M3 did, nor does it transmit feedback through the steering wheel for the sheer pleasure of it.
Instead, the 2009 Nissan GT-R bends asphalt to its will. When it talks to you about tire grip, you get the feeling it's only bothering because you're part of its great plan to break free of the Earth's orbit. Should it ever achieve this, you imagine that its conversation will cease and it will simply expel you into the airless void. Until then, though, you have the conn.

A 42-year old man from Purmerend, the Netherlands is caught after a bizarre chase. The man driving a Porsche 911 GT3 drove at speeds exceeding 200 km/h (125 mph) on the A7. The police gave him the stop sign from an undercover surveillance car. The Porsche, ignoring this, took a last second exit and went off. While entering the high way again, the driver lost control in the corner of the entranceway hitting the safety rails. While losing several parts from his car he tried to escape again. While being chased he took the road verge desperate to escape. He enters a parking space next to the high way and steps over to a Volkswagen Golf, driven by his 33-year old girlfriend. A 29-year old man which was the passenger at the Porsche took over the wheel from the Porsche and tries to get away. As seen in the video, while this was happening the police is taking a safe distance, observing until backup has arrived. The Golf drives away like nothing happened but the police knew he was in that car. They create a road block to hold up the traffic so they can arrest the former Porsche driver, the passenger now driving the Porsche also gets arrested.
In the Golf happens to be a baby and in the baby-seat they discovered a firearm. In the clothing of the baby hard drugs were found. Both man are still in custody.
