Oistrakh & Richter Franck Violin Sonata I Part1-4 - 413 sec
David Oistrakh And Sviatoslav Richter Franck Violin Sonata in A Major I. Allegretto ben moderato =========================== Full Name: David Fedorovich Oistrakh Born: 17-September-1908, Odessa, Ukraine Died: 24-October-1974, Amsterdam, Netherlands Nationality: Russian Instrument: Violin Home Page: http://www.oistrakh.com Discography: http://www.oistrakh.com/discographie_geffen.html Biography David Oistrakh was undoubtedly one of the greatest violinists of the 20th century. He was born in Odessa in the Ukraine in 1908. He began playing the violin at age 5. He studied violin at the Odessa Conservatory with P. S. Stolyarski. He graduated from the Odessa Conservatory in 1926. He made his Moscow debut in 1933 at age 25. He gave recitals throughout the Soviet Union and eastern Europe and in 1937 won first prize in the Eugène Ysaÿe violin competition. From 1934 he taught violin at the Moscow Conservatory. In 1942 he received the Stalin Prize. He toured extensively through Europe beginning in 1951, and across the United States in 1955. He played viola and conducted in addition to playing violin. Not merely a master of concertos and solo violin music, Oistrakh also played chamber music, collaborating with othe great artists such as Sviatoslav Richter, Frida Bauer, Sviatoslav Knushevitsky, Lev Oborin, Mstislav Rostropovich, Vladimir Yampolsky, and his own son Igor. Oistrakh and Prokofiev Although Oistrakh is best known as a specialist in late-classical and Romantic works, he also commissioned and was the dedicatee of several contemporary compositions. Prokofiev maintained a close relationship with Oistrakh, some times collaborating with him on violin works. Most famously, Oistrakh, upon hearing the Flulte Sonata Op 94 for violin, coaxed Prokofiev to re-write it for violin and piano, which he did, resulting in the now famous Sonata for Violin and Piano No 2, Op. 94b. Prokofiev later introduced his First Violin Sonata to Oistrakh (and Miaskovsky) in 1946. Upon hearing it, Oistrakh remarked "the music itself made an enormous impression -- one had the feeling of being present at a very great and significant event. Nothing written for the violin in many decades -- anywhere in the world -- could equal this piece in beauty and depth." Oistrakh later played the first and third movements of the First Violin Sonata at Prokofiev's funeral. David Oistrakh Scriabin Nocturne in F sharp minor w. Giakov - 186 sec
Alexander Scriabin Nocturne in F sharp minor. David Oistrakh, w' A. Giakov, piano Nocturne in f#, opus 5 no. 1, arr. Mogilevsky (13 Aug 1937) ============================ Home Page: http://www.oistrakh.com Discography: http://www.oistrakh.com/discographie_geffen.html ============================ David Oistrakh: Artist of the People (1999) Review Summary of Book:David Oistrakh: Artist of the People (1999) This is the story of David Oistrakh, the Russian violinist referred to as "King David" in his homeland. His powerful tone, precise technique, and highly emotional style made him a worldwide legend, influencing an entire generation of players. Oistrakh, who remained in Russia his entire life (1908-1974) despite persecution for being Jewish, taught at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, and performed as a solo artist from age 20 until his death. A specialist in late Classical and Romantic works, his recordings of many Romantic masterworks, especially the Brahms Violin Concerto, are considered to be without peer. The Brahms Violin Concerto and excerpts from other works are featured in the film. There are also interviews with Oistrakh's lifelong friends and fellow musicians: Yehudi Menuhin speaks on what made Oistrakh a great violinist; Mistislav Rostropovitch talks of Oistrakh's relationship with the Soviet regime; Gidon Kremer recalls Oistrakh as a teacher; Gennady Rozhdestvensky , his conductor, recalls Oistrakh the performer; and son Igor Oistrakh recalls his father as a family man and musician. This film is an inspiring look at a man whose stated goal as an artist was to bring the rich world of classical violin music to everyday people. ~ Rose of Sharon Winter, All Movie Guide Ref: http://movies.nytimes.com/movie/178099/David-Oistrakh-Artist-of-the-People/overview ===========================

David Oistrakh Giuseppe Tartini Devil's Trill Part 2of2 - 430 sec
Giuseppe Tartini Devil's Trill Part 2 ============================== Home Page: http://www.oistrakh.com Discography: http://www.oistrakh.com/discographie_geffen.html ============================== Birth: September 30, 1908 in Odessa, Russia Death: October 24, 1974 in Amsterdam Nationality: Russian Occupation: violinist, pedagogue, conductor Oistrakh, David (Fyodorovich), great Russian violinist, outstanding pedagogue, and esteemed conductor; b. Odessa, Sept. 30, 1908; d. Amsterdam, Oct. 24, 1974. He studied violin as a child with Stoliarsky in Odessa, making his debut there at the age of 6, and then continued his studies with Stoliarsky at the Odessa Conservatory (1923-26); then appeared as soloist in Glazunov's Violin Concerto under the composer's direction in Kiev in 1927. In 1928 he went to Moscow and in 1934 he was appointed to the faculty of the Conservatory His name attracted universal attention in 1937 when he won first prize at the Ysaÿe Competition in Brussels, in which 68 violinists from 21 countries took part. This launched a career of great renown as a violin virtuoso. He played in Paris and London in 1953 with extraordinary success; made his first American appearances in 1955, as soloist with major American orchestras and in recitals, winning enthusiastic acclaim; also made appearances as a conductor from 1962. He died while on a visit to Amsterdam as a guest conductor with the Concertgebouw Orchestra Oistrakh's playing was marked, apart from a phenomenal technique, by stylistic fidelity to works by different composers of different historical periods. Soviet composers profited by his advice as to technical problems of violin playing; he collaborated with Prokofiev in making an arrangement for violin and piano of his Flute Sonata. A whole generation of Soviet violinists numbered among his pupils, first and foremost his son Igor (Davidovich) Oistrakh (b. Odessa, April 27, 1931), who has had a spectacular career in his own right; he won first prize at the International Festival of Democratic Youth in Budapest (1949) and the Wieniawski Competition in Poznan (1952); some critics regarded him as equal to his father in virtuosity; from 1958 he taught at the Moscow Conservatory.
