This is the original MTH Premier SP Cab Forward (4-8-8-2) steam locomotive that was produced in 1998. It has the original ProtoSound system which provided sound and smoke but not the remote control that you see with all of my later locomotives as seen in my other videos -- this one is purely conventional operation. The differences between the original ProtoSound and the newer ProtoSound 2 are pretty evident (the newer system is way superior), but this is a very unusual locomotive, one of the first that I got in the MTH Premier line, and I thought it was worth showing. | The O-Gauge Model Railroad Layout of ToyTrains1 (2007) - 169 sec
An overall video of action on the layout. All three trains consist of AtlasO reefers, about 150 in total. The outside track has the MTH Premier GN Z-6 Challenger 4-6-6-4, GN R-2 2-8-8-2 and the GN S-2 Northern 4-8-4. The middle track has an MTH Premier PRR K4s Pacific 4-6-2 pulling and another K4s pushing. The third track has the MTH Premier PRR L1 Mikado 2-8-2 pulling and the PRR B28 0-6-0 pushing. | MTH Premier O-Gauge SP Daylight GS-2 & GS-4 Double-Headed - 162 sec
Two of the most popular videos that I've shot have been those showing the SP Daylight GS-2 and GS-4 steam locomotives. I've received a number of requests to show them running double-headed. This video is the result of those requests. Here they are, the GS-2 leading with the GS-4 following, hauling a long string of matching Daylight passenger cars. After the first run-by, I wondered what they would look like at twilight, so I shut down most of the lighting for the second run-by. While grainier and more jerky than the fully lit run-by, it does let you see the cars lit mostly by their own lighting.
