Everything went right for kobe in this game. IT was just so fun to watch. In the first quarter kobe had 20pts on 8-10 shooting , he made his last 8 shots. In the seocnd quarter, kobe made 2 straight shots to extend his spree to 10 made field goals in a row without a miss. During the first half , kobe was guarded man on man, and he just owned whoever who was guarding him. In the third quarter, nuggets tried to collapse on kobe and forced him to pass the ball, kobe got assist after assist, helping the lakers overcome an 11-0 run by the nuggets to get the lead back with 10pts at the start of 4th quarter. In the 4th quarter, kobe bean bryant was spectacular. he scored 19points in less than 4 and a half minutes. he took over the game, he just owned the entire nuggets team and especially jr smith who was trash talking kobe. Big lead, fourth quarter, road game in Houston the next night. Camby was all set to kick back and watch the final quarter of the Denver Nuggets' 110-99 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday night.
But when Cleveland sliced Denver's 25-point lead to 13 with 7:23 remaining in the game, Camby was sent back in. He scored four of his season-high 26 points in the final quarter and grabbed six of his 17 rebounds.
"It's always in the backs of our minds about blowing leads," Camby said. "The guys stepped up down the stretch."
Denver needed to the way LeBron James was playing. James finished with his first triple-double of the season -- 30 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds -- and 10th of his career.
"We contained him," said Allen Iverson, who finished with 25 points and nine assists. "That's all you can do with players like that. You can't play this game scared."
The Cavaliers cut Denver's cushion to 103-98 on Damon Jones' 3-pointer with 3:15 left in the game. But Denver closed the game out with a 7-1 run.
The struggling Cavaliers have now lost four of their last five and dropped into a first-place tie with Washington for the best record in the Eastern Conference.
"We've just got to regroup," James said.
The Cavaliers received a scare when Denver's J.R. Smith fell on James' right ankle when both were scrambling for a loose ball late in the fourth quarter. James sat out all of 8 seconds before checking back in.
"It's been better," James said of the ankle.
Carmelo Anthony said earlier in the week this was a painful game to miss. He was looking forward to going up against his good friend James. The two will always be linked as James went first overall in the 2003 NBA draft and Anthony was picked third.
Anthony said he'd watch from his living room as he served his second-to-last game for the suspension he received for his role in a fight with the New York Knicks. Anthony's 15-game suspension will be done after he sits out the game Saturday night. He'll be back Monday night as Denver hosts Memphis.
James wasn't the least bit sorry that Anthony didn't suit up.
"Nah, he ain't my teammate -- no way," James said. "They already killed us on the offensive end, it ain't going to help it. As a competitor, of course I miss him, but not on the court. They definitely are going to be a dangerous team."
Smith was suffering from the flu and missed the Friday morning shootaround. He didn't come out onto the court until 6:56 remaining in the first quarter yet he finished with 14 points, the most he's scored since coming off his 10-game suspension earlier this month.
"I feel better," he said.
The Nuggets were gushing over Camby's play after the game.
"I've never seen him score like that," Smith said.
"He played like an All-Star center for us," coach George Karl said.
The Nuggets have watched third quarter leads slip away in five home games this season. But not on Friday night.
"We'll take it," Iverson said. "By 50 points or a point, we'll take it. If we'd have lost, it would have been bad. I like the results we had."
Cavaliers coach Mike Brown certainly wasn't pleased. He was clearly frustrated after the game.
"I don't know what it is yet, but I'm definitely going to find out," he said. "We keep thinking offensively we're bad, offensively we're bad, offensively we're bad. Yes, we will be bad offensively if we come down and take the first shot, if we come down and take a jump shot without moving the basketball, if we come down and take a shot after one pass. That's what we did tonight. That's the way the Denver Nuggets play. That's the way the Seattle SuperSonics play. That's how teams out West play. They want to get out and run the floor and if we fall into that trap, we will get beat every single time on the floor. ... We don't play a rat race. We don't play a high-tempo basketball game." LOS ANGELES -- Pau Gasol's post-game smile made it clear how he felt about finally winning a postseason game.
His numbers revealed just how much he had to do with the victory.
Gasol established career playoff highs with 36 points and eight assists, and he also had 16 rebounds and three blocked shots Sunday as the Los Angeles Lakers took command in the third quarter and beat the Denver Nuggets 128-114.
"It feels amazing, it feels great. I had a blast out there," the 7-foot Spaniard said after shooting 14-of-20 from the floor and 8-of-8 from the foul line. "We did a pretty good job, we can do better. We're happy with the win, I'm happy with the win. Hopefully there will be many more.
"Every guy on our team is doing an amazing job out there, and I'm just one of them."
Gasol, a 27-year-old forward/center acquired from Memphis on Feb. 1 after spending 6 1/2 seasons with the Grizzlies, was 0-12 in three previous postseasons.
"I knew he could perform at a high level," Lakers star Kobe Bryant said. "This just ain't Memphis. I think this offense has freed him up a little bit and showcased more what he can do instead of just being in the post all the time."
"It's tough to match up against us for a variety of reasons. We have guys that can finish, we have a great 1-2 punch, and all of our guys can pass all ball."
Bryant, who said he made himself a decoy through most of the game, scored 18 of his 32 points in the final eight minutes to keep Los Angeles safely ahead. Lamar Odom had 17 points, 14 rebounds and six assists, and Luke Walton added 16 points for the Lakers, who entered having won eight of their past nine regular-season games to earn the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.
But it was Gasol who did the most damage.
"They do an excellent job of finding him around the basket," Denver's Kenyon Martin said.
"Pau is so versatile, he just opens the game up," Odom said. "He was past good, he was amazing."
Denver coach George Karl said he didn't believe it was just Gasol.
"I think the film will show it was the Los Angeles Lakers who tore us up," Karl said. "Gasol played great, don't get me wrong. He had a lot of great decisions for him to get a lot of easy baskets."
Karl said he was glad Game 2 isn't until Wednesday night at Staples Center, giving the Nuggets a chance to adjust. The third and fourth games in the best-of-7 series will be played in Denver.
"I don't think anyone in our locker room is deflated," Karl said. "We know that we can play better than we did, and defense is probably the first thing we'll address."
Carmelo Anthony had 30 points and 12 rebounds for the eighth-seeded Nuggets. Allen Iverson also had 30 points before picking up two technical fouls with 2:10 remaining, calling for immediate ejection. Linas Kleiza scored a career playoff high 23 points and J.R. Smith added 15 before fouling out with 3:14 left.
The Nuggets should have it known wasn't going to be their day when several players were stranded on the Santa Monica Freeway for about a half-hour when the team bus broke down on the way to the game.
The bus left the team's hotel about 2 1/2 hours before tipoff as scheduled, but experienced problems about 15 minutes into the trip, spokesman Eric Sebastian said.
"There was a pop, black smoke, there was another pop, more black smoke," Sebastian said. "We rushed off the bus. We were standing on the side of the road."
The Nuggets' second bus, which left the team hotel about 30 minutes after the first one, stopped to pick up their teammates. The entire team made the rest of the trip to the arena, arriving about 90 minutes before game-time.
The Lakers led 97-78 entering the fourth quarter, but an 11-2 run by Denver made it 101-91 with 8:17 remaining. The Nuggets drew within nine twice down the stretch, but Bryant wouldn't allow them to get any closer.
"They struck first," said Denver's Marcus Camby, who had only four points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots. "I was surprised how well they passed the ball. They are a very unselfish team. It was also a surprise how well they cut to the basket. Once they got the lead, it was hard to catch up with them."
The Lakers outscored the Nuggets 39-22 in the third quarter after leading 58-56 at halftime.
"We just broke down (in the third quarter)," Iverson said. "We're underdogs, and people don't think we have a chance at all. But we're not going to give up."
The Nuggets shot just 23-for-37 from the foul line. Iverson was the main culprit, going 7-for-13.
"I could never put two together," he said. "That's unacceptable."
Regarding his ejection, Iverson said: "(Ken Mauer) made the right decision about throwing me out. I was frustrated, but I deserved to get thrown out." Auteur : the2008playoffsblitz Tags: Round game LA Lakers vs Denver Nuggets 2008 NBA playoffs highlights | | Suns - Nuggets 120-126 [Barbosa 27pts vs Iverson 31pts] - 140 sec DENVER, April 1, 2008 (AP) -- Here we go again? Not this time.
The Denver Nuggets frittered away a big lead over Phoenix for the second time in 24 hours, but unlike their drubbing in the desert, they recovered from their latest meltdown for a crucial 126-120 victory over the Suns at the Pepsi Center on Tuesday night.
"I love playing back-to-back games, especially after a loss,'' said Allen Iverson, who led Denver with 31 points. "You get a chance to get at it again and try to make sure you don't have the same nightmares from the night before. All I was thinking about was the loss yesterday until we started playing today.
"I couldn't sleep all last night because of that loss.''
Iverson didn't try counting sheep, either, but just lamented the 132-117 loss in which Denver blew a 22-point lead.
"You don't want to watch TV because you might see the highlights from that game. You stay away from the sports channels,'' Iverson said. "I woke up and tried to watch movies and tried to stay away from sports.''
With the win, the Nuggets pulled into eighth place in the ultra-competitive Western Conference playoff race, a half-game ahead of Golden State, which lost at San Antonio on Tuesday night. And they denied the Suns a chance to move into first place by themselves in the Pacific Division over the idle Los Angeles Lakers.
The Nuggets have won nine of 12 overall and nine straight at home, but it's not like they're getting giddy. After all, either the Mavericks, Warriors and Nuggets might all win 50 games and one of them is going to be staying home for the playoffs.
"One loss and you're back down the totem pole,'' J.R. Smith said. "We can't be too excited about this. We've got to just keep playing our game.''
This time, the Nuggets not only buckled down on defense, but they returned to their hallmarks: getting to the rim and the free throw line - 47 times, making 37 of them, compared to Phoenix's 14-for-26 performance from the foul line.
"When we want to play, we can play,'' Smith said.
Carmelo Anthony grabbed two key rebounds and sank two free throws in the final 27 seconds and finished with 25 points. Kenyon Martin chipped in 18 points and Smith had 17.
Leandro Barbosa led the Suns with 27 points but missed a 3-pointer that would have tied it with 15 seconds left. Anthony grabbed the board and sank one of two free throws, just as he had after pulling down a miss by Steve Nash with 27 seconds left.
After Nash (17 points and 18 assists) missed a 3-pointer, Shaquille O'Neal got the rebound and drew the foul but missed both free throws. Martin pulled down the second miss and sank two foul shots to secure Denver's ninth straight win at home.
The Suns didn't grab their first lead until Nash sank two free throws with 3:11 left, putting Phoenix on top 113-112. It seesawed after that until Marcus Camby's slow-motion jumper from the top of the key with 37 seconds left gave Denver a 122-120 lead.
Forward Grant Hill missed his third straight game with a strained right groin, and guard Raja Bell was ejected after picking two quick technicals in the third quarter.
The Suns had trimmed a 14-point, first-half deficit to 74-71 when the officials assessed Bell and Anthony a double-technical and admonished them both. Bell immediately pushed off on Anthony and drew the foul, then mouthed off, drawing his second technical and automatic ejection.
"Losing Raja hurt,'' Suns coach Mike D'Antoni said. "We missed his play from the wing, plus he is our defensive guy.''
Stoudemire said he didn't even hear Bell blow up at the officials, either.
"Raja got ejected for smiling. I never saw that in my career. All he did was smile at the official and got ejected,'' Stoudemire fumed. "That was key for us. Raja is one of our key players. It's a big playoff atmosphere, both teams are fighting for the playoffs and one of our starters get ejected for smiling. That definitely didn't play to our favor.''
The officials had left the arena by the time Stoudemire criticized their calls.
The teams combined for a half dozen individual technicals, four of them on the Suns.
"Sometimes you get heated, sometimes it's emotional,'' D'Antoni said. "This is not a regular season game. For them, it's do or die. For us, it's do or die.''
