Finnish death metal legends Impaled Nazarene formed in 1990 originally consisting of brothers Mika and Kimmo Luttinen (vocals and drums, respectively) along with Mika Pääkkö (guitar), Ari Holappa (guitar), and Harri Halonen (bass). By 1992, the band had recorded a couple of demos and opened shows for bands like Sentenced, Amorphis, and Belial. The exposure attracted Finnish label Osmose Productions, who added them to their roster.

The Philippines' Catholic faithful marked on January 8 (Wednesday in Manila) the 401st anniversary of the revered Black Nazarene, once again filling Quiapo district's historic Plaza Miranda to overflowing. Two people were killed and scores were hurt in the crush of people all trying to get close enough to touch the venerated black image of Jesus Christ. This photo essay is set to the Beatles' only religioun-inspired nit, in contrast to their hugely controversial remark years ago when. in jest, John Lennon was reported as having said they had become "more popular" than Christ. The pop group was never able to live down that careless statement but their songs remain immensely popular among Filipinos of all ages, including many of the who have life-long panatas (devotion) to the Black Nazarene. This is a tribute to the devotees and their abiding faith in Jesus.

January 9, 2006 - The largest procession in the country takes place on January the 9th and on Good Friday through the streets of Quiapo, a small part of metro Manila.
Every year thousands of pilgrims from all over the country come to Manila to be part of the procession of the Black Nazarene. All participants in the procession hope that they will have the opportunity to touch the wooden statue. They hope that this will protect them from harm and ensure health in the future. Indeed, it is said that sometimes persons were healed of diseases after touching the statue! Some of them follow the statue during the procession because they believe it is an atonement of their sins or hope for some miracle.
The procession dates from the 17th century. Thousands of men parade through the streets with the life-sized, black wooden statue of Jesus (of Nazarene). Only men, because during the feast of the Black Nazarene thousands of barefoot men join the annual procession. Walking barefoot during the procession is seen as a sign of humility.
During this procession the men yell "Viva Señor".
Everybody who is in the neighborhood tries to touch the statue. People believe that a miracle can happen after touching it.
The statue was bought by a priest in Mexico and brought to Manila in 1606.
