| Mentos - The Car Movers (Cult Classic) - 30 sec
I wrote a satirical piece about this commercial over ten years ago. Imagine my surprise when the actress in it emailed me from South Africa where it was shot. She'd NEVER SEEN her spot - a spot which was a cult classic and spoofed galore, including a Foo Fighters music video. The poor girl had been searching for this spot for over a decade. I thought this was terribly unfresh and searched high and low to no avail. Things looked bleak. Eventually I reached out to friends in high places looking for any way to locate a copy. An advertising friend (now renown for writing the GEICO Caveman ads) found the spot. Though the quality belies its age, I made a nice South African actress very happy. A very Mentos ending indeed.

The Prime Movers Blues Band formed in the summer of 1965 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This audio track is from fairly early on, a gig at the Schwaben Inn and Jim Osterberg (AKA Iggy Pop) is definitely the drummer on this track. This video is a tribute to Dan Erlewine, lead guitar player for the Prime Movers Blues Band. Subsequent to the Prime Movers Dan played lead guitar for the Sam Lay Blues Band and was considering playing guitar with the Butterfield band, when he decided he really wanted to build some guitars.

The Prime Movers Blues Band was founded in the summer of 1965 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Inspired by hearing and meeting the great blues artists in Chicago and by the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, the members of the band were dedicated to learning and playing the blues. Here are some band photos and some of Michael Erlewine interviewing a few of the great blues artists. From this experience, Erlewine went on to become an archivist and founded the All-Music Guide (allmusic.com), the largest music review site on the Internet.
