kanye west Mom passed away R.I.P THIS WAS HER FAVORITE SONG - 264 sec
Donda West, the mother of Kanye West and former chairwoman of Chicago State University's English department, passed away Saturday from undisclosed causes, according to a spokesman for the family. She was 58. According to multiple sources, West was in Los Angeles and her death may have been the result of complications from a surgical procedure; more specific information was unavailable at press time. Although widely known as the mother of Kanye, Dr. West was a noted scholar and an active college professor for 31 years; she left the profession in 2004 to assist with Kanye's career, according to her biography on the Web site of the Kanye West Foundation, an educational nonprofit of which she was chair. She was also chief executive of West Brands, the parent company of her son's businesses. She began her teaching career in the early 1970s at Brown College in Atlanta and began working at Chicago State University in 1980, according to the site; she was also a Fulbright Scholar, among other awards. Dr. West raised Kanye in the Chicago area along with her husband, from whom she separated when Kanye was 3. She also recently published a book dedicated to her son titled "Raising Kanye: Life Lessons From the Mother of a Hip-Hop Star." The book and subsequent interviews have left little question about the source of Kanye's outspoken nature. The importance and influence Dr. West had in her son's life is profound. When Kanye appeared on MTV News' "You Hear It First" in 2003, one of his first rhymes was about his mother — he dropped to his knees during the performance to get his point across. Those rhymes later turned up in a full-blown dedication to her, Late Registration's "Hey Mama." "Hey Mama, I wanna scream so loud for you/ 'Cause I'm so proud of you/ Let me tell you what I'm about to do ... I appreciate what you allowed for me, I just want you to be proud of me." Kanye has dropped references to his mom on all of his albums. Kanye's love for his mom was undoubtedly reciprocated tenfold, not only did Dr. West act as in part as a co-manager, she was also his biggest cheerleader, appearing at many events throughout his career. At the Video Music Awards in September, she was in Kanye's suite at the Palms Hotel in Las Vegas, joining in the party and wearing the white shades celebrating his show. She also attended his 30th birthday party in New York last summer and his appearance on "The Oprah Winfrey Show." A spokesman for Kanye West released this brief statement when contacted by MTV News. "The family respectfully asks for privacy during this time of grief." A spokesman for the rapper confirmed Dr. West's death Sunday afternoon and released a one-sentence statement reading: ''The family respectfully asks for privacy during this time of grief.'' A spokesman for the rapper confirmed Dr. West's death Sunday afternoon and released a one-sentence statement reading: ''The family respectfully asks for privacy during this time of grief.'' Beyond her son's international fame, Dr. West had carved out her own niche as a well-respected educator in Chicago — long affiliated with Chicago State University where she rose to the chairmanship of the school's English department. I also didn't know that Kayne West had a foundation dedicated to decreasing the dropout rate in the nation's public high schools, and that his month oversaw that foundation: "...Two years ago, she relocated from Chicago to Los Angeles to take over her son's business operations, where she served as Chief Executive of West Brands LLC. She also chaired the Kanye West foundation, an organization dedicated to decreasing the dropout rate in the nation's public high schools."

Kanye West mourning the death of his mother - 133 sec
Hello, I'm Rebecca Field with a UPI entertainment update on this Tuesday, November 13, 2007. Kanye West is thanking the public for their support following the death of his mother. A Los Angeles coroner says Donda West died Saturday from complications stemming from a recent surgery. She was 58. Some reports say it was from a cosmetic operation.but there's no word on what type or where she was treated. West was a big supporter of her son and also managed his career for a while. The rapper often referred to his Mom in his lyrics...he even wrote a song inspired by her called "Hey Mama." Hollywood couple Brooke Burke and her fiance David Charvet are expecting another baby. The actress' rep tells People magazine the new addition will come sometime next spring. The pair already have a daughter named Heaven Rain...born last January. Burke also has 2 daughters from a previous relationship. She and Charvet have been together since 2005. Actor Richard Gere is being recognized for his humanitarian work. Last night he received the 2007 Marian Anderson Award in Philidelphia. The honor is given to those who not only entertain the public, but also do a substantial amount of work improving society. Gere was chosen because of his support for the Independence of Tibet and his work with HIV and AIDS patients. Last night's ceremony featured performances by big stars like Patti Labelle and the Philadelphia Orchestra. Stars are gearing up for the release of the newest Stephen King horror film. The author hit the red carpet in New York last night for the big screen adaptation of his novel "The Mist." King was joined by members of the cast like Thomas Jane, Marcia Gay Harden and Laurie Holden. "The Mist" is about a strange storm that brings a frightening blood hungry species to earth. It hits most U.S. theaters November 21. Several celebrities are using their star power for public advocacy. Actors like Ben Affleck, Reese Witherspoon and Morgan Freeman are just a few of the big names appearing in a recently debuted public service announcement on healthcare reform. The campaign is reportedly sponsored by AARP and seeks affordable health-care for all Americans. That's all for now. Check out upi.com for the day's latest news and updates. Thanks for watching!

R.I.P Ms.DR.West Kanye west Mother - 211 sec
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Donda West, mother of Kanye West and former chairwoman of Chicago State University's English department, has died, a spokesman for the rapper said. She was 58. Donda West died Saturday night in Los Angeles, said the spokesman, who asked for anonymity because not all family members had been notified. "The family respectfully asks for privacy during this time of grief," the spokesman said. A cause of death has not been released. Donda West was known for the strong bond she shared with her son, by whose side she was often seen at parties and award shows. Kanye West, 30, often spoke of his close relationship with his mother, who raised him alone after her husband left when Kanye was 3. She was the inspiration for the song, "Hey Mama," on Kanye West's 2005 album "Late Registration," in which he sings: "Hey Mama, I wanna scream so loud for you, cuz I'm so proud of you ... I appreciate what you allowed for me. I just want you to be proud of me." Donda West frequently defended her son against critics who accused him of penning misogynistic lyrics and other purported transgressions. "I support my baby," she said in a Chicago Sun-Times interview. "He is telling how he feels and he is speaking the truth as he sees it." In May, she published the book "Raising Kanye: Life Lessons from the Mother of a Hip-Hop Star," in which she paid homage to her famous son. Donda West served as chief executive of West Brands LLC, the parent company of her son's business enterprises, and as chairwoman of the Kanye West Foundation, an educational nonprofit that works to decrease dropout rates and improve literacy. Kanye West told the Associated Press in August that he and his mother worked together to devise the foundation's first program, "Loop Dreams," which helps public school students get involved in music. "Me and my mother were discussing ways to give back and came up with the concept," he said. Donda West worked in higher education for 31 years, before leaving academia in 2004 to help manage her son's career, according to a biography on the Kanye West Foundation's Web site. She began working at Chicago State University in 1980 and eventually chaired the school's English department, according to the site. She started her teaching career in the early 1970s as an instructor at Brown College in Atlanta. Kanye West's writing partner Rhymefest lamented Donda West's death Sunday in an appearance on Chicago radio station WCGI. "She was everyone's mom," Rhymefest said. "A spirit never dies, a spirit lasts forever

This was the second time I have been in here. Before today I never took a look around, I just came in because I was walking while carrying a heavy ass Djembe, after a peace march that did no good, and I was tired and wanted a beer and a place to cool down. They had it then and they have it now. Drop in during SXSW2008 http://www.wisegeorge.blogspot.com

Wings Of The West - Vancouver - Float Plane - Mother Lode - 147 sec
'Wings Of The West' was inspired by the motion picture 'Mother Lode' starring Charlton Heston and Kim Basinger. My short film was recorded at the same location in Vancouver's Coal Harbour in which the small single engine aircraft can be seen leaving the Harbor and gracefully flying over the Lions Gate bridge in search of the Stick Iron river.
