Idina Menzel - Minuet music video - 256 sec
Music video for Idina Menzel's song "Minuet," off her 1998 album "Still I Can't Be Still." Basically her and Taye Diggs goofing around in the back of a VW van, but it's cute. And they're both so purty.

1957 record changer: Minuet by Boccherini & El Condor Pasa - 463 sec
Here is my 1957 Dual 1004 D record player again. This time you see its automatic changer mode. That historic apparatus can do the same performance with up to 15 records at one haul. Both are rather famous instrumental tunes - here played in German. The first being a minuet by Luigi Boccherini, supposedly composed in 1771 and here performed by German conductor Ferry Taby and his concert soloists. I consider this record as being pressed in the mid fifties, but I don´t know for sure. The second tune is the renowned folk song El Condor Pasa, which was written in 1913 by Peruvian composer Julio de La Paz, here performed by the "Sortilège de la flute des Andes avec Facio Santillan" (You haven´t never ever heard of them before? I haven´t either!). The record was released in 1970 - as well as the better known version sung by Simon & Garfunkel. In case you don´t like the music and prefer real thrilling action: The changing performance starts at 3:42 (Sorry, I didn´t have any Justin Timberlake records being released once upon a time in earlier decades... And if I had them, I´d never play them likewise - to show all my due respect for that 50 year old machine doing its work here). Regarding the scary sound you hear when the music don´t play: I guess I have to grease the mechanics soon... Please note: The record player was never refurbished in any way and is shown in original condition! So who wouldn´t forgive this minor malfunction? ;) P.S.: There´s more to come one day. Still working on my 1961 Rex Perpetuum-Ebner record changer and my Parlophon gramophone (undated, but estimated pre 1920).

The Muppet Show: The Electric Mayhem - "Minuet In G Major" - 105 sec
The Muppet Show, Season Two, Episode 37 (with Rudolf Nureyev). The band actually starts off playing a classy rendition despite their unconventional instruments, attire, and audible grumbling. DR. TEETH: Hey what's this bummer called again? FLOYD: Minuet in G Major. DR. TEETH: I'd like to send it back to the minors. Animal is unable to confine himself to the more legato tempo and bursts into a rock beat as the rest of the band follow. At the balcony: STATLER: You know the older I get the more I appreciate good music. WALDORF: Yeah? What's that got to do with what we just heard? STATLER: Nothing. Just thought I'd mention it.

Amateur playing Minuet in G - 48 sec
When I was a little girl, roughly at the age of 9 years old, I went to school in the States. Back then, I took violin lessons for a while. My violin teacher, Laura had one day played this piece on the violin and ever since I have had this dream of one day being able to play it. 18 years later and after only 3 months of learning how to play the piano, I can finally play it by heart! PS: There are some mistakes here and there but I'll try to improve.

THE MERRY MINUET - 129 sec
THE MERRY MINUET::: The Music "The Merry Minuet" was written in 1958 by Sheldon Harnick during the cold war. We were all worried about Russia bombing us and every town and city had a bomb shelter. The John Birch society was talking about the bomb being dropped right here in River City. Every body was scared. Illustrated magazines were being handed out on church steps, in shopping malls about how the Russins planed on taking over the U.S. government. The Russians are coming the Russians are coming. After listening to the song you might think the lyrics were written today. The Kingston Trio recorded the song at the Hungry I in 1958 and it was released on Jan. 5, 1959. That's forty-seven years ago and today nobody likes anybody very much. My Judy is in the video.

The Minuet by Frederik Kaemmerer - 113 sec
The Minuet by Frederik Kaemmerer Frederik Hendrik Kaemmerer 1839-1902 Dutch The Minuet Signed F.H. Kaemmerer (lower right) Oil on canvas Circa 1890 Canvas: 38 ½ high x 63 wide Frame: 47 high x 70 ¾ wide In this sensuous work entitled The Minuet, Dutch artist Frederik Hendrik Kaemmerer deftly juxtaposes the grace and gentility of polite society with its illicit and scantily disguised underpinnings. As the ladies and gentlemen dance in the foreground, the activities of the partys other guests, including an officers harassment of a maid, slyly draw the viewers attention. Set in an open space among ruins and trampled flowers, Kaemmerer skillfully captures the natural aspects of human nature, despite societys attempts to tame it. Beautifully executed in great detail, this painting is one of the largest Kaemmerer ever executed, and is an incredible example of his great mastery of color and composition. Born in the Hague, Holland in 1839, Kaemmerer divided his life between his native city and Paris. A student of painter and sculptor Jean-Léon Gérôme, Kaemmerer made his professional début in 1870. He began his career by painting landscapes and historic genre scenes inspired by the social mores of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He achieved a great deal of success particularly with his portraits of subjects from eras of the Directoire and the First Empire, as well as with his small, highly finished portraits of elegant women. These merveilleuses, painted in lively colors with a meticulous touch, were, like the work of William Bouguereau, extremely popular with the American clientele. In 1874, Kemmerer won a medal of Paris, and in 1889, he won a silver medal at the Exposition Universelle and was made a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor. As his career progressed, Kaemmerers manner and brushwork became much freer. In fact, certain works, particularly landscapes, display the bold brushstrokes and vibrant colors of Impressionism. In 1902, at the age of 63, Kaemmerer ended his life in his Paris workshop.
