| ARMAND CRABBE "AMOUREUSE" DECCA M434, 1933 - 180 sec Armand Crabbé,famous Belgian baritone (1884-1947) sang in all the great opera houses of the world. He sang with Melba & Caruso at Covent-Garden in minor roles. He sang the baritone version of "Marouf" at the Colon. Toscanini chose him as Beckmesser for the Scala. He was so popular in South America that he sung many songs in Spanish and Portugese for HMV. His "Largo al Factotum" is the only version I can still listen to after 45 years of record collecting because it is more acting than singing, he was a real singing actor. He is not loved by the Anglosaxon collectors because he has a swollen way of singing, but for the French speaking world he is a master in diction and expression. Note the lovely sax solo in his own composition "La Rubia".
In the 1930's came back to Belgium and sung in belgian opera houses. From the late 1930's he sang in Dutch at the Royal Flemish Opera in Antwerp. When during the war he had to repeat (bis) his "Largo al factotum" under thunderous applause, he sung it in French wich was forbidden, especialy under the German occupation, between the wings he said "Je les enmerde".
This song was part of his last recording session made for Decca in 1932. Auteur : jozefsterkens Tags: ARMAND CRABBE AMOUREUSE |

| Judy Garland- "Everybody Sing" 1937 DECCA VERSION - 173 sec This is Judy's recording for Decca records of "Everybody Sing," which was originally recorded for "Broadway Melody of 1938," released 10 days before this recording took place. Here, August 30, 1937, Judy is backed by Georgie Stoll & his Orchestra at Decca's Hollywood studio. This was issued as Decca 1432 A in September 1937 to ride the popularity of "Broadway Melody of 1938." This arrangement quotes "Sing Before Breakfast," introduced by Buddy Ebsen & Vilma Ebsen in "Broadway Melody of 1936," and is another chance to hear Judy do a spirited take of a great number.
