Background on Shuggie from wikipedia:
rhythm and blues musician, bandleader, and impresario Johnny Otis. One source gives Otis' birth name as Johnny Otis, Jr., but since his father used his own birth name of John Veliotes when he ran for the California Assembly in the 1960s, Shuggie's family name at birth was probably Veliotes.[citation needed] Otis began performing professionally at the age of 12, often disguising himself with dark glasses and a false moustache so that he could play in nightclubs.
Otis is a guitarist who also plays piano, organ, drums and bass. He released his first solo album in 1970. The Brothers Johnson's version of his composition "Strawberry Letter 23" reached #1 in the Billboard rhythm and blues chart and #5 in the Billboard pop chart in 1977. He has recorded with Frank Zappa (electric bass on "Peaches en Regalia" from Hot Rats), Al Kooper, Cal Tjader, Etta James, and Eddie Vinson, and more recently Mos Def. David Byrne recently re-released Inspiration Information, including some bonus tracks from "Freedom Flight", on his Luaka Bop record label. It the liner notes, the critic James Sullivan states that Shuggie was offered guitar duties in the Rolling Stones but declined.[citation needed]

This is a video I made for the band Mimi. The song "Believer" is from the Luaka-Bop/Warner-Brothers album "Soak". The band was headed by Mimi Goese, who is also well known for her performance art, and her past involvement in the band "Hugo Largo". Go purchase these works that she was involved in, they are truly extraordinary.
This piece has screened at Siggraph, ACM1, as well as many museums and galleries around the world. It was created when I was a student at CalArts back in 1999. It was one of my first experiments in creating real-time animation. The animation was done by capturing live performance/animation data in the 3D software program "Softimage". Basically I danced around with the "mouse" to the song, and then cleaned things up for a higher production quality.
This YouTube video is a bit of pale reflection of what it REALLY looks like in the theater or on your TV. This is due to YouTube only allowing a very small file size for download. Still, I hope there is enough of "the juice" that comes through for you to enjoy this. I may try to recompress this video, with the hope that the quality will improve.
