J.D. Lasica is the pen name of Joseph Daniel Lasica, an online journalist and blogger. He is the author of Darknet: Hollywood's War Against the Digital Generation, a book about the copyright wars and the future of media.
In March 2005 he co-founded Ourmedia, a grassroots media community and learning center, and serves as its executive director and chairman of its board of directors. He is also president of the Social Media Group, a consulting firm that works with corporate clients.

Lawrence Lessig is currently professor of law at Stanford Law School and founder of its Center for Internet and Society. He is best known as a proponent of reduced legal restrictions on copyright, trademark and radio frequency spectrum, particularly in technology applications.
In 2002, Lessig was awarded the Award for the Advancement of Free Software from the Free Software Foundation (FSF), and on March 28, 2004 he was elected to the FSF's Board of Directors. In 2006, Lessig was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Lessig is also a well-known critic of copyright term extensions.
He proposed the concept of "Free Culture". He also supports free software and open spectrum. He is founder and CEO of the Creative Commons and a board member of the Electronic Frontier Foundation. At his "Free culture" keynote at OSCON 2002, half of his speech was also about software patents, which he views as a rising threat to both free/open source software and innovation. Lessig is on the board of directors of Software Freedom Law Center, launched in February 2005.

Stanford's Lawrence Lessig: We are in "dangerous cycle now" with misinformation in the blogosphere
NEW YORK -- Earlier today at the Personal Democracy Forum, we spoke with Stanford law professor Lawrence Lessig. Lessig is spending a great deal of time on congressional reform movement called Change Congress, an organization he co-founded with Joe Trippi.
Handling the interview was our colleague Caroline McCarthy of CNET News.com who filed a story earlier in the day on Lessig's keynote speech.
In this interview, Lessig spoke about the need for reform in campaign funding for congress and how he hopes Change Congress will make it happen with an active base of 50,000 members.
In this wide ranging interview, he voiced his concern about a "cycle of misinformation" in the blog world and its impact on mainstream media and public discourse. He cited the recent issue surrounding Judge Kozinski.
In the question about the Associated Press controversy, he says "the AP will be shown to wrong." He adds that colleagues at the Stanford Law School will be involved representing defendants charged by the AP.
Caroline has a second report on the conference and on her on-camera interview with Lessig.

In the wake of the death of California's 12th district Representative Tom Lantos, students are calling for Lawrence Lessig, cyberlaw and copyright intellectual, to run to replace him. A website popped up called DraftLessig.org along with a corresponding Facebook group. The group was 1,000 members strong in the first 24 hours.
This is a mashup of Lessig and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, for fun, and to encourage Lessig to continue his work battling corruption in the best possible way: get in there and mix it up with the politicians. Because it's not too late to change Congress.
