Uhhh okay, what do I have to say about this? It began when my friend, let's call her Bashful, put Teddy Grahams in her purse for us to eat. It was a long car ride to the Wachovia Arena (we took a different route each time, thanks be to God, but give or take, it took an hour to get there). The Teddy Grahams were jolted out of their container and all over Bashful's purse. She called it, which I still think is incredibly clever, a Coup d'eTeddy.
Later that night at our hotel room, we had some six full cups of tea each, we were over tired, we had already tried to do our own airflares and I'm pretty sure I broke my toe, Bashful was doing flips onto the bed, and it was waaaaaay past our bedtime. Bashful began setting up a representation of her Coup d'eTeddy. One thing led to another and before I knew it, I had created Teddy Hamm. Three times we taped it, each time stopping because we wanted to improve something. This is the last tape. By this time, we had all six events set up. Thank God, and I mean thank God, Buddha, Zeus, any deity, my camera battery died. Unfortunately, this video stayed on the memory card. And my memory.
Of course, we all know it was only a matter of time before the public saw this video. We're too stupid to keep it under wraps. I decided it was time to whip it out because with all this crap going on with Morgan and just the nerves of the Olympics in general, I figure they need a good laugh. Or a good cry. A little part of me dies every time I watch this. I don't know if the saddest part is that we attempted three good videos, that we were all ready to go six for six in this one, or that we tried extremely hard to include the Hamms' actual moves in our routines (especially the teabag part... that was representative of Morgan's warm-ups. He always puts his jacket on and jumps up and down to stimulate blood flow). Or that I taped Goldfish together for the judges' panel. I think it all pretty much speaks doom for the human race.
For anyone who cares, here's how we set up each of the events and how much thought we actually put into it:
Parallel Bars - They're two glitter glue sticks on top of two of our teacups. But the fun doesn't end there -- the glitter glues were rolling apart, so I taped them together! See? Now they don't move. I had to fix that for the final version.
Vault - "Bashful"'s phone. It's about the right size.
Floor - "Bashful"'s laptop. I know everyone (including the boys) are gonna see Bashful's background. So as to seem less stalkerish and crazy, I want to point out that we purposely reset the background for this video (not sure if that makes us seem more sane...). After we were done, we changed it back. We did not want to show our faces (can you blame us?)
Pommel Horse - my camera charger. Once again, it was about the right size, just a little thick. Thank God the battery died at this point.
Rings - we were having a problem figuring out how to do the rings. Finally, I got it! The ties for my camera case. See how they are in a ring shape? You can see them slightly above the laptop during the floor routine. Our only problem was how to have them hanging - even if we could get them up there, the ceiling wouldn't cut it. Then I got it - hang them from the lamp!
High Bar - I'm pretty sure we would have used a single glue stick for this one. I was preparing for it. Thank God the camera died.
In my defense, Bashful created the outfit. Well, Morgan and Paul did, at the beginning of last year, want to re-do gymnastics outfits.... how's this?
