Debbie Reynolds : Tammy - 184 sec
Glenmed is grateful to Universal Music Group (UMG) who hold copyright to the music content of this item. YouTube advises that UMG kindly allows the video to remain for public viewing subject to certain understandable and fully acceptable conditions. Digitally enhanced audio version (originally from the 1957 movie Tammy and the Bachelor). A lovely simple song, but the way she sings it and the beautiful orchestration make it pretty special - even now 50 years on.

Siegfried's Rhine Journey - Twilight of the Gods - 565 sec
Siegfrieds Rheinfahrt - Götterdämmerung - Wagner Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau conducts the "hervorragendes" Deutsches Symphonie Orchestra Berlin. Sorry about the abrupt ending. It is too long and I had to cut somewhere. Exactly 50 years ago I did my own Rhine journey. A school friend and I cycled through Belgium to Cologne and thence all the way to Switzerland at Schaffhausen, then Zurich, Lucerne, Interlaken, Montreux, Lausanne. Don't ask how we got home! Thus I feel qualified to upload this piece ... if not musically, then because we visited every castle on route - and even stayed in one or two (Bacharach, Ehrenbreitstein)! Marvellous!

Elisabeth Schwarzkopf: Lohengrin, Elsa's Dream - 357 sec
Watched the wonderful Karita Mattila doing this. Was keen to understand better what this music was saying. Schwarzkopf's recording is offered here with German and English subtitles. The English translation is not word-for-word. Instead, I tried to catch the scansion and some of the poetic imagery in Wagner's phrases. If any German speaker can suggest a correction or two, I will be most grateful.

Elisabeth Schwarzkopf: Beim Schlafengehen - 326 sec
Customarily the Third of Richard Strauss's Four Last Songs. 1965 recording with Georg Szell and the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra - Schwarzkopf was 50. There are so many wonderful renditions of these songs. On the advice of more than one fellow YouTuber I obtained and also uploaded the performance of this by Lucia Popp with the Philharmonia under Klaus Tennstedt.

Corelli / Stella: Andrea Chenier Finale - 521 sec
Antonietta Stella and Franco Corelli 1963 Andrea Chenier by Umberto Giordano The video of Stella and MDM doing this finale in the mid 1950s shows that she was a very fine stage presence. That and this audio show that she was also well capable of holding her own vocally with both of these magnificent tenors.
