Quando o amor vos chamar, segui-o, mesmo que os seus caminhos sejam íngremes e penosos.
E quando as suas asas vos envolverem, entregai-vos a ele, ainda que a espada dissimulada nas suas penas vos possa ferir.
E quando ele vos falar, crede nele, embora a sua voz possa estilhaçar os vossos sonhos como o vento do norte devasta o jardim.
Pois assim como o amor vos coroa, também vos crucifica. E, tal como serve para o vosso crescimento, também serve para a vossa decadência.
E como ele se ergue até às vossas copas e acaricia os vossos mais tenros ramos que esvoaçam ao sol, também às vossas raízes ele desce e as sacudirá no seu apego à terra.
Quais feixes de trigo, ele vos reúne em si.
Vos amanha para vos pôr a nu.
Vos ciranda para vos libertar do vosso farelo.
Vos moi até à alvura.
Vos amassa até vos tornardes macios.
E, depois, vos entrega ao seu fogo sagrado, para vos tornardes pão sagrado para o festim sagrado de Deus.
O amor fará todas essas coisas de vós, para que possais conhecer os segredos do vosso coração e vos tornardes, através desse mesmo conhecimento, um fragmento do coração da vida.
Mas se, no vosso temor, procurardes no amor apenas paz e prazer, faríeis melhor se ocultásseis a vossa nudez e saísseis do amor, para o mundo sem razão, onde rireis, mas não com todo o vosso riso, e chorareis, mas não com todas as vossas lágrimas.
O amor dá-se apenas a si mesmo e nada recebe se não de si próprio.
O amor não possui nem quer ser possuído.
Porque o amor se basta do amor.
Quando amardes, não deveis dizer que está no meu coração, mas antes, no coração de Deus.
E não penseis que sois vós quem orienta o rumo do amor, pois, se vos achar dignos, será o amor que conduzirá o vosso caminho.
O amor não tem outro desejo que não realizar-se a si mesmo.
Mas se amardes e sentirdes desejos, que sejam estes os vossos desejos: Dissolver-se e ser-se como um regato que desliza e canta à noite a sua melodia.
De tanta ternura conhecer a dor, ser ferido pela vossa própria concepção do amor e sangrar de boa vontade e com júbilo.
Acordar para o amor com um coração alado e dar graças por um outro dia de amor;
e fazer uma pausa à hora do meio dia e meditar sobre o êxtase do amor; regressar à noite ao lar com gratidão; e adormecer com uma oração no coração pelo amado, e nos lábios um hino de louvor.

I'm sure that somewhere out there is someone who loves the writings of Kahlil Gibran as much as I do. Like many people, I first read The Prophet at a young age. From there, I began collecting many other works by Gibran. Kahlil Gibran is probably the reason that I read, write, and review. When someone delves into his writings and appreciates them, they come away with some innocent love affair with words.
This book is quite unique in that it contains The Prophet and many other celebrated books in one collection. The book is over 800 pages and is a nice addition to your own library or as a gift.
One thing about this video: I edited the color of the images a little so that it would appear more even in color and less strain on your eyes.

Then said Almitra, "Speak to us of Love."
And he raised his head and looked upon the people, and there fell a stillness upon them.
And with a great voice he said:
When love beckons to you follow him,
Though his ways are hard and steep.
And when his wings enfold you yield to him,

And when he speaks to you believe in him,
Though his voice may shatter your dreams as the north wind lays waste the garden.
For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning.
Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun,

But if in your fear you would seek only love's peace and love's pleasure,
Then it is better for you that you cover your nakedness and pass out of love's threshing-floor,
Into the seasonless world where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your tears.
Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself.
Love possesses not nor would it be possessed;
For love is sufficient unto love.
When you love you should not say, "God is in my heart," but rather, I am in the heart of God."
And think not you can direct the course of love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.
Love has no other desire but to fulfil itself.
But if you love and must needs have desires, let these be your desires:
To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night.
To know the pain of too much tenderness.
To be wounded by your own understanding of love;
And to bleed willingly and joyfully.
To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;
To rest at the noon hour and meditate love's ecstasy;
To return home at eventide with gratitude;
And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.
