Rachmaninoff, 1st Cadenza. Alexander Ghindin - 238 sec
**For High quality paste: &fmt=18 - at the end of the url** Rachmaninoffs 1st Piano Concerto""""""""ORIGINAL""""""""". (Written back in his student years) So one could say his first Cadenza, and when I say first Cadenza I mean the "ORIGINAL". Amazingly played by Pianist: Alexander Ghindin; Conducted by: Vladimir Ashkanazy. Rachmaninovs 1st Concerto, Vivace. op, 1. First movement composed in 1890. Gutheil published this version around 1892. Around 1900, Rachmaninov felt uneasy about it. He soon forbade his publisher to lend the orchestral material. On april, 12-1908, Rachmaninov wrote to his friend (Nikita Morozov): "I plan to take my first Piano Concerto in hand tomorrow, look it over and then decide how much time and work will be required for its new version, and whether it's worth doing anyway. There are so many requests for this concerto, and it's so terrible in its present form, that I should like to work at it and, if possible, get it into decent shape. Of course it will have to be written all over again, for its orchestration is worse than its music ... ." The video this is responding to is the revised version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtdpEgMCPMs&fmt=18

Romantic Gems - 130 sec
The New Bedford Symphony Orchestras Opening Night, Romantic Gems, begins with Strausss tone-poem Til Eulenspiegel. Musical imagery tells the tale of roguish practical joker Til Eulenspeigel, who entered German folklore in the 1500s. His high-spirited pranks and cataclysmic downfall are illustrated in the dazzling orchestral effects of Strauss colorful orchestral masterpiece. Also to be performed will be Paul Hindemiths Symphonic Metamorphosis on Themes by Carl Maria von Weber. One of Hindemiths most popular pieces, the four movements of this work incorporate themes from Webers Piano Duet, Op. 60.4, the Overture to Turandot, the Piano Duet, Op. 3.2, and the Piano Duets, Op. 60.2 and 60.7. Our Opening Night will also showcase the compelling talent and skill of Russian pianist Alexander Ghindin, winner of the 2007 Cleveland International Piano Competition, as he performs his competition-winning interpretation of Sergei Rachmaninoffs Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor. Complex and technically demanding, rich in Romantic lyricism and expression, Rachmaninoffs third Piano Concerto is known as one of the most challenging pieces in the piano repertoire.
