A brilliant song by Soel - a.k.a. Pascal Ohsé. Pascal Ohsé is a French jazz trumpeter. The album was produced by Ludovic Navarre, with whom Ohsé collaborated on the St. Germain albums Boulevard and Tourist, and shares a similar style with many parts of these albums.
In 2003 he released the album Memento under his stage name Soel.
saint germain did a great production on the album.
REVIEW ON THE ALBUM:
Get jazzed up with one of Warner Brothers' new upcoming artists, Soel. Trumpeter, Pascal Ohse, has branched off into his own to become a solo artist renaming himself Soel. Members from former group St. Germain helped produce his album, while most tracks were written by Soel himself. Born and raised in Paris, the name Soel, is from West Africa to honor Ohse and his Guinean heritage. His solo album was originally released in France, but now is bringing a fresh sound to American listeners. An innovative album of 13 tracks was narrowed down to the last perfected nine tracks. Ohse took six years of production to put together a rather successful album. All the music is influenced by early 1960s and 1970s jazz and funk. Ohse pulls you into a journey of soul seduction with his instrumental tracks and eccentric style, which is a melting pot of soul, jazz, funk, acid jazz and electronic elements all in one album.
"It is the best of all possible musical environments," said Soel's Web site.
Collaborations include two talented vocalists, Clement Ashford with her Native American poems and bongos, and 'Tori' Robinson, a gospel singer from Paris and Florida. Every track has its own unique way of explaining his story.
Although, there are nine tracks, all average to last around five minutes. The contemporary music of Soel is relaxing and creates an easy listening environment. The laid back feel is not what students are used to hearing, but the record has its advantage with its smooth transition throughout the album. "Le Vicomte" (The Viscount) introduces his work with a small Latin influence of the piping flute, jazzy guitars and organ backgrounds. Although the bulk of his album is instrumental, the music itself explains a story of its own. The tracks also present a new retro twist. The beautiful "Prelude" gives you a bone chilling transition into the following tracks. Track six, titled "The Earth Mother," has its relaxation effect with a cool percussion and vocalist Clement Ashford. Number eight, "The Way U R", presents an urban tempo with a classic similarity to the Shaft soundtrack.
