This aria was written for Farinelli (Carlo Broschi) by his brother Riccardo Broschi.
I upload it only for study because I am very interesting in the Vivica Genaux's phonation skill and appearance of mouth. You can see her lips oscillate rapidly like hexapod's wings and her mouth shows botchy "crying-face", but the voice is most wonderful. Genaux's skill is different from Bartoli's.

"Sposa son disprezzata"
Bajazet, RV 703
Bajazet is a pasticcio by Antonio Vivaldi. Its libretto was written by Agostino Piovene. It was premiered in Verona, during the Carnival season of 1735. This opera (catalog number RV 703) is presented in 3 acts, with a three-movement sinfonia as an introduction. The story is about the fate of Bajazet (known as Beyazid I) after being captured by Tamerlane (Tamerlano/Timur Lenk).
Vivaldi himself composed the arias for the good characters and mostly used existing arias from other composers for the villains in this opera. Some of the arias are reused from previous Vivaldi operas. This particular aria was taken from the opera "Merope" (1734) by Francesco Gasparini.

Not many arias become legendary: "Di quella pira", "Largo al factorium", "Sempre libera", "La donna e mobile", "Laschia ch'io pianga" are only a few examples. Rossini's most famous piece for the human voice surely was "Una voce poco fa". The great "divalegacy.com" website lists about 30 versions of the aria, but the list goes on forever, so famous the song has become. Recently I have checked my opera collection and found out that I have 20+ versions of the air, so I decided that it was high time I hosted a contest/survey. I give you ten renditions of the aria, and you, the viewer, vote (the system is quite simple: the marks range from 1 to 5; there are two categories: singing/characterization; so your mark (+ comment :-) ) should look like this: */*). Next - the charming Vivica Genaux.

Sorry for the poor audio quality, it is only my private rec with my numeric camera, I do unfortunately not know of an official/professional recording of this concert. The aria is on Vivica's Farinelli CD (2002) with R. Jacobs and on Bajazet/Vivaldi CD/DVD (2005) with F. Biondi plus several live versions on youtube.
"Farinelli had a penetrating, full, hefty, bright and even soprano voice. His intonation was pure his trill beautiful, his chest extraordinarily strong in its breath control and his throat highly fluent; so that he could negotiate the most widely-spaced intervals rapidly and with the greatest ease and skill."

Vivica Genaux sings this terrific masterpiece of rapid vocalization with a supreme command of vocal technique. I recently listened to Miss Genaux singing this aria live and i can assure you that she gave me goose-bumps from the beginning to the end! enjoy!
