特殊な心理状態での殺人に時折見られる人肉捕食等
上記は厳密にはカニバリズムには含まれないが、常習化すればカニバリズムと捉える事が出来る。これは上記1.2.の中間、若しくは両方を備えた状態であると言える。
文明社会に於いては、直接殺人を犯さずとも死体損壊等の罪に問われる内容であり、それ以前に、倫理的な面からも容認されない行為タブーである食のタブーとされる。そしてタブーとされるが故に、それを扱った文学・芸術は多く見られる。
性的なカニバリズム
カニバリズムはしばしば性的な幻想をもって受け止められ、またそのようなフェティシズムを持つ者も多数存在する。彼らは大抵、その幻想の達成は実現不可能な事だと認識していて、現実に達成することはあまりない。しかし、その幻想を達成してしまい、実際に性的なカニバリズムを行った極端な例も存在する。たとえば、連続殺人者であるアルバート・フィッシュ、エド・ゲイン、ジェフリー・ダーマー、フリッツ・ハールマン、アンドレイ・チカチーロ、フィクションならば青頭巾、スウィーニー・トッド、ハンニバル・レクターなどである。
また、別の例としてよく知られた事件はパリ人肉事件で犯人の佐川一政は自著の書籍において、女生徒の肉を「まったり」と「おいしい」と記述し被害者に憎しみは無く憧れの対象であり、事件時の精神状態は性的幻想の中にあったと記述している。
また、別の事件としてアルミン・マイヴェスのケースがある。彼はカニバリズムを扱うニュースグループにて自分に食べてもらいたい男性を募集し、それに応じてきた男性を殺害し、遺体を食べている。
肉食の習慣や、所謂「共食い」とは違うが、豚の「尾齧り」や「耳齧り」・鶏の「尻突き」等、群れで飼育する家畜・家禽に於いて、傷付いたり弱ったりした個体を集団で攻撃し、結果として死に至らしめる行動も畜産学・動物行動学上では「カニバリズム」と呼ばれている。これらの行動は環境探索本能の転嫁と密飼いによるストレスが原因と言われており、遊具等の投入による欲求不満の解消や飼育密度の低減によってある程度の抑制が可能である。また近年では畜産物残渣の再利用という名目で肉骨粉等を飼料に混ぜる事もあり、家畜が家畜を認識しない内に人為的カニバリズムをさせられる形となり、という感染症を発生させる結果となった。
