=====IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS=====
In order for your textures to be properly converted, I have compiled a very descriptive and easy to understand guide to convert from DXT5 to DXT1A formats. You must carry out these following procedures exactly as I explain, or your Flight Simulator X installation may not function or may corrupt. Always keep a backup of your Scenery folder in the main FSX directory before modifying any files.
==INSTALLATION & CONVERSION==
Download the useful DDS Converter called DDS Converter 2 from:

Now that you have downloaded the program, install it, and open the program. You will be presented with a large middle section of the window for selecting files, Input/Output formats, Output Folders, Options, and many other options. We will now take this one step at a time. Please listen carefully.
Open your main FSX scenery folder. The path is usually C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Scenery. You will be presented with a wide arrangement of folders. We will start with the Global Folder. Double-click on it, and go to the folder inside it called Texture. Now you are looking at the .dds texture files. You will now need to find the same folder called Global\Texture through DDS Converter 2. Once you have found the textures, select only about a quarter of the dds files at a time, or the program will crash. Record which file you selected last, to prevent any duplicates. Now, on the Input Format box, select DirectDraw Surface (.dds), and for the Output Format, select the same thing. Now here is what's important. Click Options, under the column called General, uncheck 'On success/cancel = Close DDS Converter 2'. This will prevent the program from automatically closing when the selected texture conversions are done. Next, under the column called DDS, where it says DXTc format, select DXT1A. Also select 'Save Alpha (if any )'. Now you are set for conversion. Make a new folder on your desktop, and change the Output Folder to your new folder. After conversions are done, you will copy/paste the new textures from your new folder to the Scenery folders of the FSX directory. Every single time a conversion is done, click 'Restart' on the popup window, and the program will restart for you. Start converting the next quarter of files from where you left off. Once you are done with all the files from each folder, go onto the next one. The folders within the FSX\Scenery\ folder I recommend converting are:
AFRI, ASIA, AUST, EURE, EURW, NAMC, NAME, NAMW, OCEN, and SAME.
Do NOT convert .bgl files, as these are AFCAD files for positioning of objects, and have nothing to do with the textures. I will remind those of you again, ALWAYS back up your Flight Simulator X\Scenery folder before making any modifications. This method has worked for me, and has really brought forth the fun in flying with FSX.
==UPDATES==
3-18-08: I have tested and found that converting the main FSX\Texture DDS files are safe to do as well, and boosts another 8+ FPS to your FSX experience. Once again, almost no detail in the textures are lost.
Conversions will NOT work on Vista machines at the moment. Convert the textures on an XP machine and transfer the files to your Vista machine.

The somewhat poor video quality doesn't show all the neat details in the flight (There is rain at some places here too, but you can't really see it in the video).

This is a video taken from the FSX Acceleration, Mission "High Altitude Intercept", where you will have to chase a UFO and Interrogate its systems.
I've noticed that the UFO sometimes, goes very high and descends to gain speed then makes its escape, or it goes a bit high, then descends to gain speed and then makes its escape
In this Video, the UFO rises to 8950 Feet (Not that high), then goes down to 3000 Feet, increases its speed and makes its escape to the Mothership
To interrogate the UFO's systems, you need to maintain 1.2 nm (or less) distance between your aircraft and the UFO
DX10 Graphics isnt used in this video.
All Graphics settings is set to Ultra High except for Scenery and Traffic.

Hi everyone,
The reason of why I uploaded this video was simply, because I believe on the possibility of making a xbox 360 version of FSX or any kind of simulator(such as Lockon, Falcon, Forgotten Battles, Silent Hunter III). Many fanatic simmers can believe that this is a crazy idea, but in my honest opinion the xbox 360 hardware worth more than to play shooters or RTS.
The problem of it is that console market is still narrow depending what kind of games but little by little this situation is changing adding new games like RTS(command and conquer, supreme commander...)or the next releasing of Operation Flashpoint 2 and Armed Assault 2.
Besides the implementation of a HOTAS joy is completely possible(think about ace combat 6), so, on this matter there is not any kind of limitation, because the only thing that Microsoft needs to do is to make a Hotas joystick compatible for this kind of games, like the did with the official steering wheel made for racing games.
Advantages about of having an exclusive hardware for developing games are enormous, I know that hardware upgrades are not possible as on a PC, but who really needs it when instead you don´t need being concerned about hardware issues(upgrades,drivers,operating system stability...) or struggling with frame rate.
Gamepad for simulation is of course limited, but as simulators player since many years, I only wanted to make a blink to the xbox 360 people and programmers about of console possibilities.

PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE COMMENTING:
One of my longest flights so far, this is a Qantas Boeing 747 flying 6,500 miles from Kingsford Smith International (YSSY) to Los Angeles International (KLAX). I started very early in the morning and got to LAX around 1:00 or so in the morning. On the way there, I reached some islands, but most was over water. I recorded it with Fraps. And unfortunately I forgot the landing lights... I have no clue why... And yes... I did actually fly all 12 hours, but I wasn't sitting at the computer all the time. I was gone most of it unless I had to record or fix my flight path. It did actually take 12 hours to fly this flight.. I don't know why I'm getting so many people asking me if it really takes that long... so yes, it does. For the clip with the "sped up 16x" I filmed the clips at real time and then later sped them up in Windows Movie Maker. And yes, I spelled Los Angeles wrong in the beginning of the video... can't really change that now though, lol, sorry. This is the Deluxe Edition of FSX, although it does not really effect anything because the Deluxe Edition only comes with a few more planes and missions. You can get Flight Simulator X from pretty much any electronics store like Best Buy and I think you might even be able to download it. The island at 5:00 was just randomly recorded because I thought it looked cool. I didn't know anything about it nor did I care, but after everyone asked me about it I researched it and I found that it is most likely the island of Tuvalu. The music is "Children of the Sandstorm". Tell me if you have any other questions, and I'll most likely answer them. Enjoy!
