Operation Storm (Croatian: Operacija Oluja, Serbian: Oпeрaциja Oлуja) was a large-scale military operation carried out by Croatia, in conjunction with the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, to recapture areas of central Croatia held by Croatian Serb forces. After only four days of fighting with casualties on both sides, it ended in a decisive victory by the Croatians. The operation led to the displacement of approximately 200,000 Criminal Serbs.

The Battle of Vukovar was an 87-day siege of the Croatian city of Vukovar by the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA), supported by various Serbian paramilitary forces, between August-November 1991 during the Croatian War of Independence. It ended with the defeat of the local Croatian National Guard, the near-total destruction of Vukovar and the killings or expulsion of most of the Croat population.
The fate of those captured at Vukovar -- both military and civilians -- was grim. Many appear to have been summarily executed by Serbian paramilitaries; journalists visiting the town immediately after its fall reported seeing the streets strewn with bodies in civilian clothes. BBC television reporters recorded Serbian paramilitaries chanting:
Slobodane, Slobodane, šalji nam salate, biće mesa, biće mesa, klaćemo Hrvate! ("Slobodan [Milošević], Slobodan, send us some salad, [for] there will be meat, there will be meat, we will slaughter Croats").[8]
Many of the Croatians in the Vukovar hospital (around 260 people plus several medical personnel) were taken by JNA and Serb paramilitary forces to the nearby field of Ovčara and executed there (Vukovar massacre). Three JNA officers, Mile Mrkšić, Veselin Šljivančanin and Miroslav Radić were indicted by the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) on multiple counts of crimes against humanity and violations of the laws of war.[1] The three indictees were either captured or handed themselves in during 2002 and 2003 and stood trial in October 2005. On 27 September 2007, Mrkšić was sentenced by the ICTY to 20 years' imprisonment for murder and torture, Šljivančanin was sentenced to five years' jail on charges of torture, but was acquitted on charges of extermination, and Radić was acquitted.[17] Slavko Dokmanović was also indicted and arrested for his role in the massacre, but committed suicide in 1998 days before judgement was to be announced.

On Saturday Greece and Croatia booked their tickets in the Olympic basketball qualifying tournament. Croatia's semi-final win secured their spot with a tight 76-70 win over favorites Germany. Led by Marko Tomas who scored 21 points, the 20th-ranked Croatians showed solid improvement in their game, playing from the lead much of the way. The German team made a run to close the gap, but a three-pointer with just over three and a half minutes left pushed Croatia's lead to a 10-point cushion. In the other semi-final, host-team Greece beat Puerto Rico 88-63. The solid performance before a fiery home crowd, only strengthens the view that Greek team is a genuine medal contender. @@@@@@@ The International Basketball Federation finalized the Olympic brackets on Sunday after Germany secured the final qualifying spot with a win over Puerto Rico. It marks the first time since 1992 that Germany will play in the Olympic Games. Germany and Greece, will play in Group B which already includes Angola, China, world champions Spain and the U.S. While Croatia, the third qualifier, was drawn in Group A alongside 2004 Olympic champions Argentina, Australia, Iran, Lithuania and European champions Russia. Meanwhile, Yao Ming gave China's Olympic basketball hopes a boost when he returned to action last week. But Yao, recovering from a foot injury, spent most of the warm-up match on the sidelines. [Yao Ming, Chinese Basketball Player]: "The match was really not that intense. The Serbian and Russian eams are both youth teams. Only the Angolan team will be playing in the Olympics. The next match against Angola will be more of a real test. As far as how my body feels, there's no way to tell if the challenge isn't that great." As China's best-known sportsman, Yao faces considerable pressure to excel despite the team's modest medal hopes.
