Madeleine McCann-Cuppycake Song - 42 sec
UPDATES THE hunt for Madeleine McCann in Morocco has been wound down after police found the girl said to have a "keyhole eye" just like hers. Detectives said the youngster was blonde like Maddie but did not have a matching eye flaw. Investigators were in the north African country after tourist Naoual Malhi claimed to have seen the missing girl getting into a taxi with an Arab woman. The 24-year-old said the tot looked just like Madeleine, even down to a matching fleck in her right eye. Naoual also claimed Morocco's people trafficking Mafia had threatened to kill her after she reported her sighting near the northern town of Fnideq. Private eyes hired by the McCanns were so convinced by the sighting they took her back to Morocco in a bid to track down the mystery girl. But last night Moroccan police revealed they had traced her already. They said though the youngster was blonde she only spoke Arabic and detectives are satisfied she is living with her natural parents. Abdelmajid Chadili, the head of Morocco's judicial police, said: "In the case of Fnideq, we did find a small blonde girl. "She was among her true parents and I can tell you she only speaks Arabic." Mr Chadili, speaking at Interpol's general assembly in Marrakesh, warned people not to get their hopes up every time a blonde child was seen in the north African country. "In a far away country, some people think it's not possible that a small blonde girl can be Moroccan. But it's true, we have children with blonde hair.'' Moroccan interior minister Chakib Benmoussaas said his detectives had co-operated with officers from Portugal, Britain and Interpol but had found no trace of Madeleine. "We have no new evidence suggesting such a presence in Morocco," he added. A pal of Madeleine's parents Kate and Gerry, both 39, admitted it was "another hammer blow". He said: "They no longer get their hopes up over possible sightings until they have been thoroughly checked out to avoid riding a rollercoaster of emotions. It is the not the first time their hopes have been raised in Morocco only to be dashed again. "This trail may have gone cold but they remain convinced she is out there." Investigators from the Spanish-based Metodo 3 agency were last night still on the ground in Morocco. They still think Madeleine was smuggled there by a gang after being stolen to order from the family's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in May. It is not the first time the McCanns' hopes of finding their daughter in Morocco have been dashed. In September a Spanish tourist photographed a Maddie lookalike in the same region but she was traced to a remote olive plantation. The McCanns, from Rothley, Leics, remain official suspects in their daughter's disappearance, but deny any involvement and insist she was abducted. THE McCanns could have put Maddie at risk by revealing her eye flaw, a police chief claimed last night. Detective Carlos Anjos warned any abductor might have panicked at news she had such a distinctive feature. He said: "The revealing of such a distinct feature would put that person's life in danger.''
