As You Remember It: The Lift-Off of APOLLO 11 - 595 sec
In July of 1969, America sent the first humans to the moon. Astronauts Neil Armstrong, Edwin Aldrin, and Michael Collins were aboard the mission named Apollo 11. The launch vehicle they rode, the Saturn 5 rocket, is still the most powerful machine ever built. It generated almost 8 million pounds of thrust and even after nearly 40 years, it is the only vehicle that has carried men beyond earth's gravity. Watch it now, as you would have seen it on July 16, 1969, at 9:26 AM EDT. T-minus 00:5:59 and counting.

Gilligan's Island - Cape Kennedy scientists - 16 sec
Short clip from a 1965 episode of Gilligan's Island (CBS-TV, 1964 - 1967) entitled "Smile, You're On Mars Camera", where a NASA probe to the planet Mars goes off course and lands you-know-where. Not surprising, the poor Cape Kennedy scientists do not fare well. Funny in a "the truth hurts" kind-of-way.

Space Shuttle Launch (STS-88 Endeavour, 1998-12-04) - 240 sec
Space Shuttle Endeavour launched as mission STS-88 to rendezvous with the International Space Station on December 4, 1998, from Cape Kennedy. I took the video from the "friends and family" viewing area on the Banana River 3.5 miles east of the launch pad with my Sony TRV-7 digital video camera. This video lasts 4 minutes, and covers T-60 seconds through T+3 minutes.

Kennedy space center, Florida. - 275 sec
From our trip around Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and Louisiana. November 2002. The announcement of the lunar program led to an expansion of operations from the Cape to the adjacent Merritt Island. NASA began acquisition in 1962, taking title to 131 square miles (340 km²) by outright purchase and negotiating with the state of Florida for an additional 87 square miles (230 km²). In July 1962, the site was named the Launch Operations Center. It was renamed the John F. Kennedy Space Center in November 1963, after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. (The surrounding Cape Canaveral was also renamed Cape Kennedy, but this change was unpopular with local residents and the cape reverted to the original name in 1973.) KSC is now the launch site for the Space Shuttle, reusing the Complex 39 Apollo infrastructure. The first launch was of Columbia on April 12, 1981. KSC also has a landing site for the orbiter, the 2.9 mile (4.6 km) Shuttle Landing Facility. However, the first end-of-mission Shuttle landing at KSC did not take place until February 11, 1984, when Challenger completed STS-41-B; the primary landing site had until that time been Edwards Air Force Base in California. Twenty-five flights had been completed by September 1988, with a large hiatus from January 28, 1986, to September 29, 1988, following the Challenger disaster (which was the first shuttle launch from Pad 39B). In September 2004, parts of Kennedy Space Center were damaged by Hurricane Frances. The Vehicle Assembly Building lost 1,000 exterior panels, each 3.9 x 9.8 ft (approx. 1.2 x 3.0 m) in size. This exposed 39,800 sq ft (3,700 m²) of the building to the elements. Damage occurred to the south and east sides of the VAB. The Space Shuttle tile manufacturing facility suffered extensive damage. The roof was partially torn off and the interior suffered extensive water damage. Tile manufacturing will probably be moved to the Palmdale, California backup facility. Further damage to KSC was caused by Hurricane Wilma in October 2005. In the future, Kennedy Space Center will be the launch site for the Ares I and Ares V rockets, which carry the Orion spacecraft

Kennedy Out of Hospital, Weighs Treatment - 51 sec
SelectPlusKennedy Out of Hospital, Weighs TreatmentKennedy Out of Hospital, Weighs TreatmentThe Associated PressSen. Edward M. Kennedy walked out of the hospital on Wednesday after being diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor, giving a thumbs up to well-wishers and kisses to his relatives before driving home. (May 21)Senator Ted Kennedy walked out of Massachusetts General Hospital to applause. He gave a thumbs up to the crowd and appeared cheerful. A square bandage on the back of his head covered the spot where doctors performed a brain biopsy Monday. That biopsy helped confirm that the 76-year-old has a malignant brain tumor.Kennedy and his wife Vicki then headed for their home on Cape Cod where he will recuperate through the weekend and weigh his treatment options. Doctors say Kennedy has a malignant glioma in the left parietal lobe of his brain. (SOT: BRIAN COLLINS/RADIATION ONCOLOGIST)(16:03:50) PATIENTS WITH TUMORS ON THIS SIDE OF THE BRAIN OFTEN HAVE DIFFICULTY SPEAKING OR UNDERSTANDING LANGUAGE. THEY ALMOST MIGHT HAVE TROUBLE USING THE RIGHT SIDE OF THEIR BODY.Experts say the life expectancy with this type of tumor is one to five years. Treatment options often consist of radiation and chemotherapy. ___ ___, The Associated Press.

The Launch of Endeavour - STS-118 (2007) - 587 sec
My series of "NightLife Shows" ran on cable TV in Florida from 1980-1986. Here is another of my internet specials for YouTube! The shuttle Endeavour was launched from Cape Kennedy on August 8, 2007. This time, we view the evening launch from Sanford, FL - just North of Orlando. On this hot Summer night, we get a good view of the shuttle as it rises into the sky against a backdrop of palm trees and cabin cruisers. Recorded: August 8, 2007.

Cape Canaveral Peacocks, Turtle, Pelican, & Woman - 425 sec
On this one day, I saw more wildlife around the beach than I ever had before, and I had my camera! The peacocks where putting on a mating display, the turtle looked like it was laying eggs, the pelican was relaxing in the surf, and I got to see it all. One of the peacocks was albino. All this was filimed in Cape Canaveral, Florida in Brevard County. In the video with the pelican, you can see Cape Kennedy from where they launch the rockets and shuttles in the distance! "Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." ~ Isaiah 40:30-31~ Check my main website, kathleenannmontgomery.com to find out more about me personally. I have COPD COPD: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Lung Problems Caused By Occupational Exposure to Polluted Air! Farmer's Lung, Home Heated with Wood, and Schools Heated with Coal, etc! My name is Kathleen Ann Montgomery. I grew up on a dairy and beef farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Carroll County, Virginia. From the age of five, I got bronchitis or pneumonia every year. As a result, my Pulmologist (Lung Doctor) from Duke University diagnosed me with COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) when I was seventeen. COPD is a life threatening lung disease. Most people get COPD from smoking, but I got COPD even though I have never smoked and have rarely been around anyone who smoked. My lungs were sensitive, tight, and weak. Most of the time, just breathing hurt! Dr. Steele discovered that there was no air getting to the lower part of my right lung. He discussed that removing that section in my lung might make it easier for me to breathe. My breathing was low enough to where people are usually put on oxygen. However, Dr. Steele did not want me to get me dependent on oxygen. He wanted me to keep fighting to get better. Young bodies heal easier and I was only 17, so he wanted to give me a fighting chance! After getting bronchitis and pneumonia for so many years, my body was way too weak for my lungs to clean themselves. Since my lungs were damaged from bronchitis, I produced a lot of mucus. It was my lungs' way of trying desperately to clean themselves. In addition, plugs were formed from mucus left over from the bronchitis and pneumonia, which blocked many of my airways. Even though my lungs were ready to collapse at any second, my family and I were determined that I lift weights, no matter how light or few of reps I did. That helped me to keep up my strength. Dr. Steele, my Duke Pulmonologist (Lung Doctor) suggested that the salt air from the east coast of Florida might help my lungs. He wanted us to try it out as an alternative to lung surgery. Upon visiting eastern Florida beaches, it felt like God was sweeping out my lungs! So when I was seventeen in August of 2001, my mother, brother, and I moved to Cape Canaveral, Florida. I was able to breathe a whole lot better, and I coughed up several blockages (plugs) from my lungs. Dr. Steele said it was from the warm salt air and everything I was doing. When there was a strong odor or allergen in the air, I had to wear a mask just to have a chance of breathing clearer air. Even so, I did what ever I could to improve my health. I used a mixture of salt and water to clean out my nose, a saline spray to moisten my nose, hot steam to moisten my lungs, and spent time in the pool or ocean to moisten my lungs. All this helped to keep me going! Since we have moved to Florida, I haven't gotten pneumonia. From April 2004 until April 2005, I didn't have bronchitis due to the fact I took four different doses of steroids (prescribed to help my breathing). The steroids have a side effect of weakening the immune system, which was already weak. So, it was a vicious cycle. I was always weak, short of air, and had to constantly push myself to get anything done. As soon as the year was up I got bronchitis, again! Then I had gone for another a year without getting bronchitis again, but the 2006 Florida Wildfires weakened me down and I developed bronchitis, again! My mom and brother John thought I was going to die for sure. However, it has now been well over a year since I've caught bronchitis or pneumonia. Check out my website, kathleenannmontgomery.com to see how I got better!
