The "Posto 9" is the area in Ipanema beach, located between Farme de Amoedo Street & Sol de Ipanema hotel, where the so called "beautiful people" (straights & gays) gather to cruise and play sports, perfect spot to lay down and admire gorgeous bodies while getting yourself a nice tan! ;-) The term"beautiful people" was used in the 70's to identify the kind of people who frequented the stretch of the beach. In spite of its narcissistic connotation the term was based on the fact that many artists, models, athletes & famous celebrities frequented this area. Eventually it became the gay spot that is now the main attraction & the place to go when one wants to be seen. center . The "Boys of Rio" (the surfers) spot is by the rocks in Arpoador beach and "the intellectual people" (writers & journalists) is further away, towards Leblon beach. Walking from one point to the other it's the perfect way to socialize and become acquainted within the crowd. The friendly atmosphere of the beaches is a reflect of the spirit "Carioca" (a native of Rio de Janeiro) that praises the pleasure of extending the hospitality to everyone. Once down there one grasp the idea of why Rio is known as the "wonderful city"! You'll find yourself surrounded by hot muscle men from all over the World and realize Ipanema Beach is one of the sexiest beaches one can ever be!!! :-)
