| Debunked: 'Four Atheistic Fallacies' - 464 sec
Yesterday I encountered a very odd video on YouTube made by a very confused individual who goes by the moniker philos71. The word "philos" means "philosopher," a lover of wisdom. A Sophia Phile. One will not find any such affection in his videos: it appears Sophia and philos71 have never been introducted.
The video pretends to complain about four logical fallacies that people who lack belief in the gods commonly employ in YouTube. However, philos71 never got around to actually saying what those four logical fallacies are. Judging by the video replies to that video, I am not the first to notice that odd and mysterious omission.
What struck me most about the video is that philos71 has a very complex hyper-compartmentalized way of thinking: it is kind of spooky to hear him employ false and even insane logic to castigate what he believes to be faulty logic. He engages in the same behavior he believes he is criticizing in the very act of criticizing that behavior. I found such behavior, as I said, spooky.
He raised what he believes to be four points about four arguments he considers logical fallacies. He calls those alleged fallacies quote "atheistic fallacies," which makes zero sense: fallacies are neutral when it comes to the existence of gods. More to the point, his criticism applies to henotheists such as Christians, Jews, and Muslims, so to call his criticisms "atheistic" is very odd.
In this, my reply video, I hope to briefly explain the four complaints he has and then show them why they are false.

"WHAT IS ATHEISM?"
Atheism is characterized by an absence of belief in the existence of gods. This absence of belief generally comes about either through deliberate choice, or from an inherent inability to believe religious teachings which seem literally incredible. It is not a lack of belief born out of simple ignorance of religious teachings.
Some atheists go beyond a mere absence of belief in gods: they actively believe that particular gods, or all gods, do not exist. Just lacking belief in gods is often referred to as the "weak atheist" position; whereas believing that gods do not (or cannot) exist is known as "strong atheism."
Regarding people who have never been exposed to the concept of 'god': Whether they are 'atheists' or not is a matter of debate. Since you're unlikely to meet anyone who has never encountered religion, it's not a very important debate...
It is important, however, to note the difference between the strong and weak atheist positions. "Weak atheism" is simple scepticism; disbelief in the existence of god. "Strong atheism" is an explicitly held belief that god does not exist. Please do not fall into the trap of assuming that all atheists are "strong atheists." There is a qualitative difference in the "strong" and "weak" positions; it's not just a matter of degree.
Some atheists believe in the nonexistence of all gods; others limit their atheism to specific gods, such as the christian god, rather than making flat-out denials.
"Is there such a thing as atheist morality?"
If you mean "Is there such a thing as morality for atheists?," then the answer is yes, as explained above. Many atheists have ideas about morality which are at least as strong as those held by religious people.
If you mean "Does atheism have a characteristic moral code?," then the answer is no. Atheism by itself does not imply anything much about how a person will behave. Most atheists follow many of the same "moral rules" as theists, but for different reasons. Atheists view morality as something created by humans, according to the way humans feel the world 'ought' to work, rather than seeing it as a set of rules decreed by a supernatural being.
"Then aren't atheists just theists who are denying god?"
A study by the Freedom From Religion Foundation found that over 90% of the atheists who responded became atheists because religion did not work for them. They had found that religious beliefs were fundamentally incompatible with what they observed around them.
Atheists are not unbelievers through ignorance or denial; they are unbelievers through choice. The vast majority of them have spent time studying one or more religions, sometimes in very great depth. They have made a careful and considered decision to reject religious beliefs.
This decision may, of course, be an inevitable consequence of that individual's personality. For a naturally sceptical person, the choice of atheism is often the only one that makes sense, and hence the only choice that person can honestly make.
The word "deny" can be used to mean "fail to accept the truth of." In that sense only, atheists deny the existence of god. They are not "in denial," wilfully ignoring evidence; nor do they necessarily positively assert the nonexistence of god.

Actually I find that you are not a Moslem but rather a person who has spiritual feelings and realises that the sort of religiosity in your community upsets you.
Maybe you are a atheistic Sufi. I'm just guessing here. Sorry if I'm wrong. My point is that you seem to seriously believe in religion. At least Orthodox Islam.
There are many contradictions in Islam. Do we need to understand Arabic to engage in an understanding of a proper interpretation of Islamic principles? How would it seem to you if I request the same of you to understand the English language with its Latin, Greek, etc. origins? Would I not jump on the same bandwagon as yourself to say that perchance your interpretation of what Sam Harris spoke about is less than your precise understanding of the English language?
Let's be fair, Obaid. People are intelligent enough to get what your Koran wants to say. Which version of it do you promote? Yusuf Ali? Pitckall? or some other Indian Moslems interpretators? How about Ghazali's?
Meanings are meanings. If the tanslator can render appropriate meanings, it's the translator's fault. But too many translators can't be wrong, my friend. Unless you're talking about Ibnul Arabi's texts, or Mansur al-Hallaj or even Bistami's texts. There's not may translators of them in English.
Your point is moot. Every educated Moslem knows the harsh language of the Koran including injunctions on the infidels. Of course, Allah ultimately decides BUT it's there in the text. And interspersed from various suras.
There are internal contradictions in aqida as well. Moslems have plenty of heretics over the centuries who were also killed. There was a Moslem Inquisition but few talk about it these days. If you commit adultery, you gotta be stoned to death? If you're unmarried, you'll be whipped 100 times man or women. If you missed your daily prayers, you must be counselled, thereafter if you still persists, you will be killed. Of course, some schools would say: house arrest first.
Would your hands not be decapitated if you steal? How come Moslems are so uneducated of the Shari'a? I'm refering to Moslems outside the Arab world in SEA, Indonesia, etc.? I do know that it is not easy to get 4 witnesses to accuse someone of rape. Some schools don't even accept DNA test results?
Man gets more portion of inheritance than women. Erm...but aren't women equal to men? Of course, in your society they do not want that. They want women to be equal but not equitable. But that's not in practice.
Many Moslems scholars are at odds with one another on aqida and fiqh. You have as many as 12? schools of fiqh, of which only 4-6 major ones remain.
Moslems have killed more people in the name of God than for any other reasons. In fact, Moslems killed among themselves more in their Islamic history because of differences of opinions. You are lucky to be born in this century.
600 years ago, your views will be a big problem. Anyhow, I respect your views and opinions in as far as I think you are able to defend your beliefs well.

Moslems may have forgotten the Battle of Camel and scholars don't talk much about it. Who was right? Aisha or Ali? That battle killed thousands of Moslems lives even when your Prophet said: Follow my companions. They are guides like the stars that you see at night. Are you gonna tell me: that hadith is not authentic? Believe what you will...you know far well the contradictions in your book.
Also, my mother is most merciful than Allah. She doesn't want to fry people in fire. Oh! Maybe there is a different interpretation to fire i.e. we are 'distanced' from Allah. As kuffar means to cover. I am not covering not shit Obaid.
There are many aqidas....Sunnis, Shias and their denominations...mutazilites, Qadariyyas, wahabism and many more.
