The First Advocacy Corporation - 441 sec
Find out why we need the non-partisan Advocacy Corporation or Anti-Corporation to structurally protect information in society and the people who share information, and exactly how this will work. At it's core it's a very simple concept whose time has come in 2008. [Transcript] [Intro] Imagine this: The Advocacy Corporation or Anti-Corporation -a NEW type of partially federally subsidized, corporation whose ONLY legal reponsibility is to ensure an informed citizenry - giving YOU a TAX DEDUCTION for contributing to it AND allowing you to INVEST in the things YOU believe in or advocate. An AC, in support of other advocates, gets FREE TELEVISION TIME for positions advocated as a "public service announcement" - AND places the responsibility of "informing" the people in the hands of the people. Preserving the essence of the capitalistic system to ensure that it can NEVER become communistic or socialistic, requiring limited government involvement (the Republican goal) AND giving the Advocates collectively MORE POWER than the corporations (the Democratic goal) AND the Government (the Libertarian goal). Protect the role of the advocate by institutionalizing it. YOU are the Advocate. The First Advocacy Corporation type: The Advocacy Corporation type, or Anti-Corporation (AC), has one legal responsibility - to create an active and knowledgeable citizenry that cannot be bought (imagine 50 FDA's exerting pressure advocating for public safety from the PRIVATE sector). AC's do not legally need to make a profit (as most corporations do). It is a special kind of corporation, an Anti-Corporation. It does this by being partially federally subsidized, based on a tier of advocacy it has achieved and each citizen may create 1 AC if they choose every year - so if YOU create an AC - based on some type of transparent advocacy goal - you immediately have the ability to: [Next Slide] 1. Via FCC regulations to be put into place, to offer "public service announcements" on a topic related to your advocacy goal. Each channel - not network - must allot a 2 hour time block every day during prime time television (4 hours if the media owner wants to run commercials), for AC's ONLY to register within. A single AC cannot run more than once in a 3 month time period. Also a single point of view cannot run more than once in a 1 month time period. A similar model will need to be applied to print media as well or any other type of unregulated domain. [Next Slide] 2. Donate to an AC and get a tax deduction. 3. Invest in an AC and have your money invested into Advocates in society consistent with your advocacy goal. There is however, no ROI guaranteed. 4. Go to a web site that transparently displays why the AC is invested in a particular Advocate and how close the Advocate (a person, organization, corporation, politician, etc.), is to getting a "cash infusion" - once a point is reached determined by the AC itself in it's charter, an AC MUST invest shareholder money AND donations into it's Advocates. [Next Slide] Ensure that it BECOMES profitable to increase your level of awareness, and the wrong reasons for doing things and the wrong things we are doing, will get weeded out faster...

Advocacy How-To - 108 sec
Many of you responded to our alert a few weeks back asking Senators to oppose the SAVE Act -- please do so again! The representatives who are sponsoring this anti-immigrant bill will be filing a discharge petition next week to bring the SAVE act directly to the floor. It is of the utmost importance that we keep this from happening. Leaders in the Christian Reformed Church have spoken out in favor of Comprehensive Immigration Reform (for more information about the CRC stance on immigration, go to www.crcna.org/pages/osjha_immigrationreform.cfm). The SAVE act is not Comprehensive Immigration Reform; instead, it would make a reforming of the immigration system much more difficult and make it harder for people of faith to protect the human rights of those immigrating to this country. Since the procedures are complicated and anything could happen, we are simply urging everyone to call their representative (since all the action is on the House side) every day and urge him/her to say NO to the SAVE Act. Why oppose the SAVE Act? H.R. 4088 / S. 2368 would: * Broaden the definition of "alien smuggler" to include anyone who provides transportation or assistance to an undocumented immigrant. This would impact churches, humanitarian groups, bus drivers, and others who are in no way "smugglers" but simply do not examine immigration status prior to helping people in need. * Force employers to rely on an inaccurate verification system for all employees, without any safeguards against racial profiling, misuse, privacy, or error. * Cost taxpayers billions of dollars to build fences and militarize our borders, which has proven ineffective and will do nothing to fix our broken immigration system. * Increase imprisonment of asylum seekers and other immigrants, including children, while ignoring the lack of humanitarian standards in detention centers. * Divert local police resources from community safety and force them to act as immigration officers, which will result in racial profiling and unreported crime. What should I say? * Ask them to oppose narrow, wasteful, deportation-only proposals like the SAVE Act that would divide our communities and increase hate, fear, and racial profiling. * Tell them the solution to our broken immigration system is equitable, humane reform that respects all people and keeps families together - not the SAVE Act. * Let them know that "As your constituent, I have no desire to squander billions on the unrealistic and counterproductive deportation of families and productive members of society." * Ask them not to cosponsor this legislation, to vote against it, and to discourage others from cosponsoring it (or, if they are cosponsors, ask them to remove their support). Problems with 'our' M.E. (and CFIDS, ME/CFS) advocacy groups - 272 sec
Unfortunately, while many advocacy groups started out doing excellent work to improve things for M.E. sufferers, today this is no longer true in most cases. So many of these groups which started out determined to fight against the 'fatigue' and 'CFS' psychobabble, and all the other financially and politically motivated propaganda, and now actively SUPPORTING it. It is very common to read information produced or supported by these groups which does not contain even a SINGLE facts about M.E., or about anything else. (At best, information on M.E. is mixed in randomly with information on 'CFS' as if they were one and the same). There are a small number of groups doing some good and worthwhile work for their members. Within that group there are a very small number of groups which really are virtually propaganda free and which do very clearly make the full and proper distinction between M.E. and CFS. Then there are the worst of the worst, the groups which support all of the worst psychobabble including graded exercise therapy (the most harmful 'treatment' for genuine M.E. there is, and the reason many with M.E. are so severely affected in the first place, or have DIED from M.E.). (These groups are the 'wolves in sheep's clothing'). This includes groups such as: AfME in the UK, the ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Society of Victoria in Australia, and the CFIDS Association of America (CAA), among others. But the largest number of groups are somewhere in the middle. (These groups are the 'sheep'). They may or may not provide some small percentage of good information occasionally, but unfortunately they combine this with many times more propaganda/fatigue/CFS nonsense, so it's all rather confusing and just pointless in the end, despite any of the good intentions they may have (or claim/seem to have). But what is so maddening is that these groups are not only not helping people with M.E., they are also harming all those people misdiagnosed with 'CFS' to a similar degree. They help NOBODY. These comments do not just apply to a few rogue groups, unfortunately. They apply to almost all of them -- all around the world -- and virtually ALL the largest groups in each country. The number of 'advocate' groups -- and individual advocates -- not significantly or overwhelmingly affected is very small. We must fight to get these groups closed down, or at the very least these groups and individuals must be stopped from incorrectly and misleadingly claiming that they speak for (and provide facts on) authentic Myalgic Encephalomyelitis; as is happening so often now. These groups must stop hiding behind terms such as 'CFS' and 'ME/CFS' etc. and once and for all state clearly exactly who they are supposedly advocating for. These groups and individuals have caused enough needless extra suffering, abuse, neglect and DEATH. What is happening is a human rights travesty on a massive scale. This has to stop. It has to BE stopped. For more information on this topic see: http://www.ahummingbirdsguide.com/topicactivismgroups.htm For more information on all aspects of M.E. see: http://www.ahummingbirdsguide.com/whatisme.htm Acknowledgements: A big thank you to Claire Bassett for all the artwork in this video
