Naima Mora (born March 1, 1984 in Detroit, Michigan) is an American model and actress. She was the winner of the fourth cycle of America's Next Top Model
Naima Mora was born on March 9, 1984 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of jazz percussionist Francisco Mora Catlett. Her grandparents are painter Francisco Mora and sculptress, painter and printmaker Elizabeth Catlett. She grew up near West McNichols and Schaefer on Detroit's northwest side and attended Bates Academy for middle school.
Named after John Coltrane's song "Naima," Mora is the youngest of four sisters, one of whom is a twin sister, Nia, a photographer in New York. Her father is Mexican, Indian and African-American, while her mother is Irish and African-American.
A serious student of ballet, Mora attended Detroit's Ballet Renaissance and was enrolled in American Ballet Theatre's Detroit summer programme. Naima graduated from Cass Technical High School in Detroit in 2002.
She also worked as a coffee shop waitress before moving from Detroit to New York to attend the school of Dance Theatre of Harlem. Mora decided to audition for America's Next Top Model at the behest of her friends.
America's Next Top Model
With her mohawk and introverted persona, Naima was originally thought to be a long-shot to walk away with the title of "America's Next Top Model." Though her earlier photographs were not as strong as fellow runner-up Kahlen Rondot, the judges were blown away by Naima's final performance on the catwalk. Tyra, in particular, felt that Kahlen was "the girl who did excellent during the semester and kinda failed the final exam", while Naima was "the girl who did alright during the semester but finished in flying colours during the final exam." Her win consisted of a fashion spread in ELLE, a contract with Ford Models and a $100,000 contract with CoverGirl cosmetics.
Modeling/acting career
Naima and Cycle 3's Ann Markley were Trophy Girls at the 2005 Primetime Emmy Awards.
She has made multiple appearances as a guest on The Tyra Banks Show.
She appeared on the second season premiere of Veronica Mars, "Normal Is the Watchword"
Mora also served as a judge at the Miss Teen USA Pageant in 2005.[2]
Naima was a guest host at the Ramapo College Enerve Couture Fashion Show in Spring 2006.
In 2006, she wrapped up filming on an independent film called Sarbanes-Oxley, and has made an appearance in a music video for TV on the Radio's "Wolf Like Me."
Naima has modeled for CoverGirl, ELLE Magazine, Fuego Magazine, US Weekly Magazine,Radaar Magazine, IN Touch Magazine, Star Magazine, Teen People Magazine, Split Clothing, Jazz Album Samsung. She also modelled with her sister Ife for iTunes .
Naima's runway shows include Christopher Deane Spring 2006 Collection, Gharani Strok Fall 2005, Carlos Miele Fashion Show, Walmart and ELLEgirl Presents Dare To Be You Spring 2006, Fashion Comedy Style 2005 (Charity Event), and New York Fashion Week 2007.
Naima appeared in the make-up brand SheerCoverage commerical, along with fellow winner of America's Next Top Model Yoanna House
Family
Her older sister Ife Mora, (born 1977) is a vocalist, trip-hop, and rock experimental artist of the group livemas.
She is the inspiration for her grandmother's 2001 black marble bust entitled Naima. Catlett described it as:
" That black marble head, Naima: we have twin granddaughters who came to stay with us one summer, they were studying Spanish. I kept looking at one of them, who has a very dynamic personality. I thought I would like to do a head of her. And then it was the shape of her hair with a knot at the back. It was a whole different shape. She posed for me a little bit, to get the general shape of it. She has a little bump in her nose that I wanted to put in.

The girls are taken to Wal-Mart for a CoverGirl make up challenge, which Claire wins. Back at the house, Allison admits her struggle with anorexia, before putting on a Barbie doll show for Fatima and Whitney. Using a dark-skinned doll to represent Fatima, Allison takes a jab at her by saying that she is a "black girl who takes it from the back."
Later, it is makeover time. Through "Tyra-Vision", Tyra tells the girls their makeovers. A lot of pain comes with Fatima's weave, but she ends up loving it. There is general satisfaction among the other girls as well.
The photo shoot is on a yacht with New York City in the background. They meet Elle Macpherson and model her line of lingerie called "Intimates".
At judging, Lauren shines for her awkwardness that translates into high fashion, and so are Marvita and Aimee. Amis is called third last for not taking direction well. Dominique and Allison, however, are the bottom two, Dominique for her soccer mom look and Allison for her conceited attitude and lackluster photographs. Dominique's name is called and a bawling Allison is eliminated.

Danielle Evans, better known as Dani Evans is an American fashion model and television personality. Evans came to fashion modelling when she was crowned America's Next Top Model on Cycle 6. Evans, who worked as a babysitter and an Abercrombie & Fitch Brand Rep before appearing on ANTM, is originally from Little Rock, Arkansas.
Danielle was thought by the judges to be one of the front-runners in the competition, noted for her striking face. It was not until the second half of the contest that she came under criticism for her heavy southern accent, which the judges felt was un-befitting of a CoverGirl spokes model (The final three contestants on Top Model shoot a CoverGirl commercial, and the winner receives a CoverGirl contract). Nevertheless, Danielle made it to the top two contestants, Tyra Banks saying she could be given speech lessons. In the finale, the judges were torn with some of the judges preferring fellow finalist Joanie Dodds's versatile portfolio, while others (notably judge Nigel Barker) preferring Evans's "signature look." However, they felt as though Evans had the stronger in-person presence compared to Dodds and commanded the final catwalk. Despite the two girls being "neck and neck," Evans's charisma and charm edged out Dodds, and she was crowned the winner of America's Next Top Model, Cycle 6."
Since winning America's Next Top Model, Evans has appeared on the cover of PowerPlay Magazine, an Arkansas-based publication,. As part of her prize, she was signed to Ford Models. and was given a $100,000 contract with CoverGirl Cosmetics. She has starred in the continuing CoverGirl commercial campaign on The CW entitled "My Life as a Cover Girl" during Fall 2006 as well as starring in a CoverGirl commercial with fellow CoverGirls Queen Latifah and Tiiu Kuik. Her other modeling credits include ELLE (as part of her prize), ELLEGirl, Jewel Magazine, In Touch Weekly, Essence Magazine, Seventeen, The New York Post, Ashro catalog, Sephora, Akademiks, CoverGirl eyewear and Cover magazine. Evans has walked the runway for Issue, Victorio & Lucchino, Baby Phat Fall '07 and Zang Toi Fall '07. She has also walked on the '07 Ripped the Runway, with many other ANTM contestants, although she was the only winner of ANTM that walked this season, she is the second winner to ever have walked on Rip the Runway and Style Salon. In 2007, she was featured in an ad for CoverGirl Eye-wear alongside cycle 7 winner CariDee English. Dani is the only top model winner to have her Cover Girl contract renewed. 35 girls arrive at "Top Model Prep" where they meet Mr. and Ms. Jay. They shoot a class photo before commencing runway lessons with Ms. Jay, where Lauren is seen as the weakest walker. Next, the girls attend a bonfire where the "Homecoming Queen" is going to be announced. The cheerleaders by the stage are revealed to be contestants from past cycles. Mr. Jay then announces that the finalists will be taken to New York City. Finally, the girls meet Tyra, and casting interviews commence.
In between interviews, a fight breaks out between Shaya and Fatima, but they later make up when the latter reveals that she is a survivor of genital mutilation. Memorable auditions include Stacy Ann's lap dance, Fatima telling the judges about her circumcision, and Claire's confession about drinking her own breast milk so her baby can breast feed when she returns home.
After the interviews, the girls are pared down to the final 20, where they participate in a senior class photo shoot and have to do their own hair and make up.
Later in the day, Tyra reveals the final 13. When she calls "Aimee/Amy", both advance, and Amy offers to change her name to "Amis", a childhood nickname, to avoid confusion. When the thirteenth girl is chosen, Tyra mentioned that so many girls had potential, and chooses Dominique as the fourteenth and last finalist.

The girls are taken to their loft in New York City featuring a humanitarian theme. To Amis, Fatima and Kimberly's frustration, there is a "no smoking" sign. Mr. and Miss J. arrive and round up the girls for a city tour. The final stop is a Badgley Mischka runway show.
After the show, Fatima unintentionally hits Marvita with her hand, brewing tension. The girls are then taken to Elite Model Management building and they meet Paulina Porizkova and Neal Hamil, and Paulina gives each girl brutal and harsh criticism.
At the photo shoot, the girls have to portray homeless women being surrounded by high fashion models. Most of the girls receive positive feedback, but Amis' over-enthusiasm and Kimberly's dead expressions get criticized. Later, Kimberly admits to Fatima that high fashion is not her interest.
At judging, Paulina Porizkova is revealed to be the new panel judge, replacing Twiggy. When Kimberly is called, she states her lack of desire for the fashion industry, and proceeds to quit the competition. She is the third contestant to voluntarily leave the show, after Cycle 5's Cassandra Whitehead and Cycle 9's Ebony Morgan.
Despite the shock, Tyra announces that there will still be an elimination. Anya, Claire, Whitney and Lauren are especially praised, while Allison, Amis and Atalya fall flat. Amis and Atalya are revealed to be the bottom two, with Atalya lacking a high fashion appeal and Amis looking lost in her photo. However, the judges see Amis has having a certain "edge", and she is saved.

The girls meet posing instructor Benny Ninja, who teams up with supermodel Vendela Kirsebom to teach the girls the different poses for catalogue, commercial and couture shoots by pitting them against each other in a posing challenge. Team B consisting of Claire, Katarzyna, Marvita, Stacy Ann and Whitney ultimately wins. Claire is deemed the best poser overall and wins an additional prize - a trip to Bora Bora.
Back at the house, Whitney creates a phone list which is a schedule that assigns each girl a limited amount of time to call home. When Dominique misses her phone time, she causes a row with Whitney, esclating to the point where Dominique accuses Whitney of being a racist, of which the latter denies.
The week's photo shoot required the girls to do an extreme beauty shot with paint as their main makeup. Most girls deliver once again but Fatima, Marvita and Dominique all struggle with their shoots.
In the end, Whitney and Marvita landed in the bottom two, both for their bad takes. Marvita is eliminated and Whitney is spared.
