Jodhpur was founded in 1459 by Rao Jodha, a Rajput chief belonging to the Rathore clan. Rao Jodha succeeded in conquering the surrounding territory and thus founded a state which came to be known as Marwar. As Rao Jodha hailed from the nearby town of Mandore, that town initially served as the capital of this state; however, Jodhpur soon took over that role, even during the lifetime of Rao Jodha. The city was located on the strategic road linking Delhi to Gujarat. This enabled it to profit from a flourishing trade in opium, copper, silk, sandals, date palms and coffee.
Early in its history, the state became a fief under the mughal empire, owing fealty to them while enjoying some internal autonomy. During this period, the state furnished the mughals with several notable generals such as Maharaja Jaswant Singh. Jodhpur and its people benefited from this exposure to the wider world: new styles of art and architecture made their appearance and opportunities opened up for local tradesmen to make their mark across northern India.
Aurangzeb briefly sequesterated the state (c.1679) on the pretext of a minority, but the rightful ruler was restored to the throne after Aurangzeb died in 1707. The mughal empire declined gradually after 1707, but the Jodhpur court was beset by intrigue; rather than benefitting from circumstances, Marwar descended into strife and invited the intervention of the Marathas, who soon supplanted the mughals as overlords of the region. This however did not make for stability or peace; 50 years of ruinous wars and humiliating treaties dissipated the wealth of the state, which sought and gratefully entered into 'subsidiary alliance' with the British in 1818
During the British Raj, the state of Jodhpur was the largest in Rajputana, if size be reckoned by land area. Jodhpur prospered under the peace and stability that were a hallmark of this era. Its merchants, the Marwaris, flourished without let or limit and came to occupy a position of dominance in trade across India. In 1947, when India became independent, the state merged unto the union of India and Jodhpur became the second city of Rajasthan.
La ville indienne de Jodhpur (जोधपुर), fondée par Rao Jodha, le chef du clan des Râthor, en 1459, est la ville bleue du Rajasthan. Ancienne capitale du Mârvar, situé à 340 km de Jaipur, la capitale de l'état, c'est sa deuxième ville par la population.
En 1193, l'afghan Muhammad Ghûrî s'empare de la capitale du clan Râthor, Kânauj. Ceux-ci s'enfuit et s'installe à Pali dans la région où verra le jour Jodhpur. La clan prospère, mais sa nouvelle capitale obtenue par alliance, Mandore, se révèle mal pratique, aussi ses hommes construisent une forteresse sur la site actuel qui offre une bien plus grande sécurité. Le chef Rao Jodha donne son nom à l'endroit et à partir de 1459, le fort symbolise la prospérité du clan et son expansion territoriale au Rajasthan.
Jodhpur se trouve sur la route stratégique qui relie Delhi au Goujerat et la ville bénéficie du commerce de l'opium, du cuivre, de la soie, du santal, des dattes et du café.
Bientôt, les Moghols au pouvoir à Delhi souhaitent partager les richesses et l'avantage stratégique de Jodhpur, aussi l'empereur Akbar fait alliance avec le clan en épousant la sœur de son chef Râo Udai Singh, ce qui assure une aide militaire au clan dans ses campagnes au Goujerat.
Mais cette alliance est rompue au milieu du XVIIe siècle, lorsque le chef Jaswant Singh joint ses forces à celles de Shâh Jahân contre Aurangzeb. Ce dernier, victorieux, pille Jodhpur et force ses habitants à se convertir à l'islam. Le nouveau maharâja Ajit Singh, le fils de Jaswant Singh, est assassiné et les Moghols réclament son trône. Son fils Ajit Singh II, alors enfant, se cache durant 30 ans dans un minuscule village de l'Himalaya puis revient à Jodhpur, en 1707, après la mort d'Aurangzeb et récupère son trône.
Le XVIIIe siècle connaît beaucoup de guerres sanglantes entre Jodhpur et les autres états rajputes de Jaipur et d'Udaipur. En 1818, Jodhpur signe un traité avec les Britanniques qui lui apporte paix et prospérité.
Le dernier maharâja d'avant l'indépendance - Umaid Singh - d'après lequel est nommé le Umaid Bhavan Palace - était le grand-père du présent maharâja Gaj Singh.

Se le llama la ciudad azul, ya que se pintaban de color índigo las casas de los brahmanes para diferenciarlas de las demás, mas tarde y al observar que en las casas así pintadas había menos mosquitos en las demás se descubrió que este color posee propiedades órgano eléctricas que repelen a los insectos, razón por la cual casi todas las casas se pintan de azul.
El Fuerte Meherangarh, se alza magníficamente sobre una colina que lo hace inexpugnable. Ya en la época en que se construyó las fortificaciones eran altas y robustas. Coronando los bastiones se encuentran las estancias reales.
Construida por el Maharajá Umaid Singh como residencia y palacio con 347 habitaciones, una piscina cubierta, una sala de conciertos, ocho cocinas y una sala de baile para 300 personas. En el centro de este enorme edificio se alza una enorme cúpula.
Los muebles se encargaron dos veces a una fábrica inglesa, en plena guerra mundial, pero el barco fue bombardeado y una vez realizado el segundo pedido la fábrica fue destruida, así que finalmente los muebles art nouveau tuvieron que ser copiados por los carpinteros locales.
Hoy en día parte de este palacio, es un Hotel de Lujo...
El resto es visitable y está hermosamente conservado para disfrute de los visitantes, es patrimonio de la familia del maharajá, con participación del patrimonio cultural de la India.
El Jaswant Thada, Cenotafio que se encuentra a dos Km, antes de llegar a la fortaleza, construido en mármol blanco por el Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. Siendo este el principal monumento construido en mármol blanco con filigranas talladas y esculpidas por los mejores artesanos de la época.
Donde quemaban el cuerpo del maharajá una vez muerto, con el rito jainista, para después enterrar sus cenizas en las tumbas de los alrededores, utilizándose el edificio solo para los ritos de culto.

The O'Jays are a Philadelphia soul group, originally consisting of Walter Williams (born August 25, 1942), Bill Isles, Jerome Pierson, Bobby Massey, William Powell (January 20, 1942 - May 26, 1977) and Eddie Levert (born June 16, 1942). The O'Jays were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004 and The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005. The O'Jays (now a trio after the departure of Isles) had their first hit with "Lonely Drifter" in 1963. In spite of its success, the group was considering quitting the music business until Gamble & Huff, a legendary team of producers and songwriters, took an interest in the group. With Gamble & Huff, the O'Jays emerged at the forefront of Philadelphia soul with Back Stabbers (1972), a huge pop hit.

A Polish-Ukrainian workcamp took place in Drohobych (Ukraine) from 2. till 17. October 2007.
15 volunteers from both countries worked for 2 weeks, renovating and cleaning gravestones on a historic cemetery at the Truskavetska Street.
We are really happy that the results of the project are even greater than we expected initially. Thanks to the commitment and enthusiasm of the participants over 12 Austrian, Polish, Russian and Ukrainian gravestones have been renovated and cleaned, giving a completely new appearance to the part of the cemetery, where the works were conducted. We have also uncovered the oldest known gravestone on the cemetery, which was earlier toppled and coated with soil and moss.
Apart from the works on the cemetery we also found time to visit Lviv, Truskavets, Stryi and Tustan as well as to organize cultural evenings - including a meetings with Leonid Tymoshenko, Associate Professor (Dean of the Faculty of History at the Drohobych Ivan Franko State Pedagogical University), Alfred Schreyer (singer and the last student of Bruno Schulz), Adam Aurzecki (President of Drohobych's department at the Lviv District Polish Culture Society).
The project was organized jointly by the Krzyżowa Foundation for Mutual Understanding in Europe and the Charitable Fund of the Drohobych-Sambor Diozese of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church. Co-financed in the framework of the Cultural Heritage Volunteers Programme funded by the Foundation "Remembrance, Responsibility and Future" (Stiftung "Erinnerung, Verantwortung und Zukunft") and coordinated by the Stefan Batory Foundation (Fundacja im. Stefana Batorego). Co-operation - Magurycz Association.

Workcamp z udziałem wolontariuszy z Ukrainy i Polski odbywający się 02-17.09.2007.
Celem obozu były prace porządkowe na terenie zabytkowego cmentarza komunalnego przy ul. Truskawieckiej w Drohobyczu (Ukraina). Uczestnicy pod okiem specjalistów kompleksowo odremontowali pojedynczą alejkę (12 nagrobków).
W chwilach wolnych od pracy wolontariusze poznawali kulturę ukraińską; odwiedzili m.in. Lwów, Truskawiec, Stryj, Tustań; spotkali się z przedstawicielami lokalnych instytucji oraz osobami zasłużonymi dla kultury. Wolontariuszy gościli m.in. dr hab. Leonid Tymoszenko, prof. PUP (Dziekan Wydziału Historii Państwowego Uniwersytetu Pedagogicznego im. Iwana Franki w Drohobyczu), Alfred Schreyer (muzyk i ostatni żyjący uczeń Bruno Schulza), Adam Aurzecki (prezes drohobyckiego oddziału Towarzystwa Kultury Polskiej Ziemi Lwowskiej).
Organizatorami obozu były: Fundacja Krzyżowa dla Porozumienia Europejskiego oraz Caritas Diecezji Samborsko-Drohobyckiej UGKC. Fundatorzy: Fundacja im. Stefana Batorego oraz Fundacja "Pamięć, Odpowiedzialność, Przyszłość" (Stiftung "Erinnerung, Verantwortung und Zukunft"). Współpraca: Stowarzyszenie Magurycz.

"На цвинтарі багато людей, без яких світ не існував би." - Генріх Болль
Табір, в якому брали участь волонтери з України та Польщі, відбувався 02-17.09.2007.
Метою табору було прибирання на території старовинному цвинтаря на вулиці Трускавецькій в Дрогобичі (Львівська область). Учасники під наглядом спеціалістів комплексно відремонтували окрему алею (12 нагробних пам'ятників).
У вільні від праці хвилини волонтери пізнавали українську культуру; відвідали Львів, Трускавець, Стрий, Тустань; зустрілись із представниками місцевих інституцій а також із заслуженими особистостями культури. Волонтерів приймали Доктор Леонід Тимошенко (декан Історичного Факультету Дрогобицького Державного Педагогічного Університету ім. Івана Франка), Альфред Шреєр (музикант і останній учень Бруно Шульца який до сьогоднi живе в Дрогобичі), Адам Аужецкі (президент дрогобицького відділення Товариства Польської Культури Землі Львівської).
Проект "Слiдами забутих iсторiй" був реалiзований через Благодійний Фонд Карітас Самбірсько-Дрогобицької Єпархії УГКЦ спiльно з Фундацiею Кшижова для Європейського Порозумiння та Товариством Магурич завдяки фiнансовiй пiдтримцi Фонду ім. Стефана Баторія (Fundacja im. Stefana Batorego) та Фонду "Пам'ять, Вiдповiдальнiсть та Майбутнє" (Stiftung "Erinnerung, Verantwortung und Zukunft").

Francisco Cruz, Raphael Cruz, Brad Henderson and Will Underwood have known each other practically all of their lives. At the San Francisco Circus Center, these boys trained alongside one another from ages 8 - 18, during intensive Chinese acrobatic courses with former Nanjing Acrobatic Troupe director Master Lu Yi. The four boys spent their days in the circus gym perfecting such uniquely Chinese disciplines as hoop-diving, pole-climbing, and chair-balancing, as well as more traditional western circus skills as teeter-board and trampoline. When not in the circus gym they still "trained" alongside one another on the streets, skateboarding, playing basketball, doing graffiti. They performed together in local circus productions and even went on the road together from time to time.
In 2002 the four boys all moved across the continent to further their training, at l'École Nationale de Cirque in Montreal, Canada. There they perfected their circus techniques and acquired a few new ones, while equally honing their skills as dancers and actors. This is also where they met their future remaining Traces cast member, Héloise.
Unlike her west-coast colleagues, Héloise Bourgeois hails from the other side of the Atlantic, a small little town called Paris, France. Her background was equally unique: 15 years of equestrian vaulting, 10 years of trampoline, both at internationally competitive levels, where she received numerous awards and distinguishes. Complementing her rigorous sports training was 7 years of ballet, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Material Science.
In the summer of 2004, Héloise rounded up the four boys for a whirlwind tour of Europe, under the name "The Abandoned Acrobats". In just two months they performed 200 shows in seven countries, receiving the Bronze and Public awards at the Sol y Circo festival in Sylt, Germany.
In their last year of circus school the five-some grew even stronger as they polished their solo acts and simultaneously prepared a collective future for their fledgling troupe. Shortly after graduation they were scooped up by the 7 Fingers.
