Silence the Violence emergency vigil - 197 sec Highlights of the vigil. After a string of eight Oakland homicides in
just five days in early February (which brought the homicide rate to
21 deaths in the first 42 days of the year), Silence the Violence organized this event to unite as a
community and to create solutions for peace.
This clip highlights the vigil, including moving stories from Steve
Gilbert, who lost his son in April '07, and Sean Sullivan of Cov House
Records. With the other folks in the community, they call on each of
us to invest in our communities, schools, employment programs and
Oakland's families in order to bring peace to our streets.
