اندلعت النيران في أجزاء من مبنى المسرح القومي المصري وهو اكبر واقدم مسارح مصر. وأفاد مراسل الجزيرة أن القاعة الرئيسية قد دمرت بالكامل، كما دمرت غرف الممثلين والإكسسوارات والأزياء في المسرح الذي تأسس عام الف وتسعمائة وواحد وعشرين. وقد نقل مراسلنا عن وزير الثقافة المصري فاروق حسني انه تمت السيطرة على الحريق، الذي أرجع الوزير سببه الى ماس كهربائي. ويأتي الحادث بعد اسابيع فقط من اندلاع حريق التهم مباني تابعة لمجلسي الشورى والشعب في القاهرة

قال مسؤولون يوم الاربعاء إن النيران اشتعلت في طائرة سودانية بعد هبوطها في مطار الخرطوم أثناء الليل وسط أحوال جوية سيئة مما أسفر عن مقتل 28 على الاقل من 217 فردا كانوا على متنها. وقال رئيس الخدمات الطبية بمطار الخرطوم إن السلطات تمكنت حتى الان من احصاء 123 ناجيا ولكن ما زال هناك 66 شخصا لم يعرف مصيرهم بعد .وتابع أن 28 جثة نقلت الى مشرحة قريبة مضيفا أن بعضا من الاشخاص الستة والستين الذين لم يعرف مصيرهم بعد ربما نجوا وغادروا منطقة المطار أثناء الفوضى التي نجمت عن اندلاع النيران في الطائرة عقب هبوطها مساء يوم الثلاثاء.
ولم يتسن على الفور معرفة جنسية القتلى.
وكانت الطائرة التابعة لشركة الخطوط الجوية السودانية التي قال التلفزيون السوداني فقط انها من طراز ايرباص تقل 203 ركاب و14 من أفراد الطاقم في رحلتها القادمة من العاصمة الاردنية عمان.
وذكر مسؤولون أن عاصفة رملية هبت على المطار كما هطلت عليه أمطار غزيرة يوم الثلاثاء.
وقال نائب مدير الشرطة في مقابلة مع التلفزيون السوداني ان عملية اخراج الجثث من الطائرة جارية الان مضيفا أنها عملية صعبة لان بعض الجثث محترقة تماما ولان هناك أشلاء جثث.
وقال أحد الركاب ان الطائرة حاولت الهبوط في مطار الخرطوم "لكن قائد الطائرة قال لنا أننا لا يمكن ان نهبط في الخرطوم بسبب سوء الاحوال الجوية."
وأضاف أن الطائرة توجهت بعد ذلك الى مدينة بورسودان على ساحل البحر الاحمر قبل أن تعود الى الخرطوم بعد ساعة.
وقال راكب اخر من الناجين ان الهبوط في الخرطوم "لم يكن عاديا" ووصف "انفجارا في الجناح الايمن" بعد دقيقتين أو ثلاث دقائق من هبوط الطائرة.
وأشارت مشرحة قرب مطار الخرطوم الى أنها استقبلت 28 جثة.
الطائرة كانت قادمة من العاصمة الاردنية عمان وسوريا وهبطت بسلام في مطار الخرطوم واتصلت ببرج المراقبة الذي أبلغها بمسارها على الارض. وأضاف أن الانفجار وقع بعد ذلك.
وقبل خمس سنوات تحطمت طائرة بوينج 737 تابعة لشركة الخطوط الجوية السودانية بعد اقلاعها بفترة قصيرة بالقرب من بورسودان مما أسفر عن مقتل 104 ركاب اضافة الى طاقمها المكون من 11 شخصا.
KHARTOUM, June 10, 2008 (AFP) - A Sudan Airways Airbus caught fire and skidded off the runaway after landing at Khartoum airport in poor weather late Tuesday, killing more than 100 people, Sudanese national television said.
"Preliminary reports indicate that about half the 203 passengers on board are dead," a television presenter said. There were 14 crew members on board but their fate was not immediately known.
The plane had just arrived from Jordanian capital Amman via Damascus when the accident occurred, the television said, adding that weather conditions were poor and that the capital had been hit first by a sandstorm and then by heavy showers Tuesday.
"There was an explosion in one of the engines and the plane caught fire," airport director Yussef Ibrahim said in an interview.
"We cannot give exact figures," regarding victims, but "a large number of passengers are safe and well," he added, indicating that fewer people may have been killed than the television had reported.
Police official Mohammed Naguib al-Tayyeb had earlier told the broadcaster that most passengers had managed to escape the aircraft without injury but some had suffered burn wounds.
Police officials interviewed by the channel said the plane veered off the runway as it landed for reasons still to be determined.
Emergency services had rushed to the aircraft in "numbers" and were fighting the blaze.
Families of passengers were waiting at the airport "in fear", the television said.
"Hospitals in Khartoum have received a great number of injured," the presenter said, adding that the casualties were in a stable condition.
Television pictures showed flames tearing through the upper section of the fuselage hours after the fire broke out and an emergency escape slide could be seen attached to one of the central doors of the plane.
Abbas al-Fadini, a member of the Sudanese parliament who was on the plane, told CNN television that the fire started from the right engine and then spread to the inside of the plane.
He said he was in the front of the plane and was among those who exited first. Crew members were guiding people to the exit and some passengers injured were sent to local hospitals, he added.
In May this year, south Sudan's defence minister was killed in a plane crash along with at least 22 other people, most of them senior members of the southern former rebel leadership.
Lieutenant General Dominic Dim Deng's plane came down 375 kilometres (around 220 miles) from the southern capital Juba, killing everyone on board, including many army officers.
In July 2003, 115 people were killed when a Sudan Airways Boeing 737 was destroyed in a ball of fire as it attempted to land at the Red Sea coast resort of Port Sudan after apparently suffering an engine problem soon after takeoff.
