| George Nelson at Vitra Design Museum - 561 sec George Nelson (1908-1986) was one of the most important American designers of the 20th century. In 2008 George Nelson would have been 100 years old. In recognition of this anniversary, the Vitra Design Museum presents the first comprehensive retrospective on his work: George Nelson. Architect, Writer, Designer, Teacher.
In this video, curator Jochen Eisenbrand talks about the person and the work of George Nelson, his many talents and the influence on the American design in the latter half of the 20th century, and the connection Herman Miller, Charles Eames and Vitra.
George Nelsons office produced numerous furnishings and interior designs that became modern classics, including the Coconut Chair (1956), the Marshmallow Sofa (1956), the Ball Clock (1947) and the Bubble Lamps (1952 onwards). On display at the exhibition are Nelsons concepts for the modern single-family home during the 1940s and 1950s; his corporate design work for Herman Miller and other firms; his work as innovator in the development of the modern office; his exhibition design (for example for the American National Exhibition in Moscow in 1959); and an overview of the numerous articles and books and some of his films and slide presentations.
The exhibition is accompanied by a richly illustrated catalogue (250 pages) in German and English editions.

| Cai Guo-Qiang - I Want to Believe - 327 sec Currently, the Guggenheim Museum in New York presents Cai Guo-Qiang: I Want to Believe, a comprehensive retrospective of the Chinese-born artist Cai Guo-Qiang (until May 28, 2008). The show presents early works, gunpowder darwings, explosion events, installations, and social projects. Cai Guo-Qiang: I Want to Believe features more than 80 works from the 1980s to the present. The exhibition has been designed as a site-specific presentation within Fank Lloyd Wright's rotunda building and also in galleries of the Annex. According to the artist, the presentation fills the museum with the energy of an explosion. Eight of Cai Guo-Qiang's most important installations are on display, the most dominating one being "Inopportune: Stage One (2004)", comprised of nine cars pierced with blinking light tubes that simulate the trajectory of a car-bomb explosion tumbling upwards through the atrium's void. | Bernhard Leitner: Sound Space Sculpture / Hamburger Bahnhof - 199 sec During the late 1960s in New York, Austrian architect and artist Bernhard Leitner (born 1938) designed the first sound-space sculpture or architecture - a multi-channel architecture of sound - prior to the advent of the technical possibilities required for its realization. The current exhibition at the Hamburger Bahnhof - Museum für Gegenwart presents the revival of the first sound-space investigations by Bernhard Leitner, realized between 1971 and 1973. What is remarkable is that it's not a historical reconstruction, but rather a re-inception, on the basis of modern control systems, of the first sound-space-sculpture in the history of the visual arts. Apart from this centerpiece of the show, the exhibition assembles sketches, notations, models, photographs relating to this early field of experimentation. Curator: Prof. Dr. Eugen Blume, Director Hamburger Bahnhof.
Since 1970 Bernhard Leitner has been exhibiting his sound-space objects and sound-space sculptures in the international context. His works have been shown at P.S.1 New York, ZKM Karlsruhe, and documenta 7, among other key venues. Impressions from the opening reception, January 31, 2008.
