Carly saves Jack from drowning, and explains that he walked into James Stenbeck's trap. They find the cottage from Paul's vision, are captured by James and set adrift on a boat in the middle of nowhere. Jack's going into shock from loss of blood (or dehydrated--the writers reference both), lowering his defenses and allowing him to say what he should have said to Carly a loooooong time ago.

He--in family protection mode--heads off immediately and alone. Carly and Bonnie find Derek and also find out that Jack is walking in to a trap. Carly rescues him, complete with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

Lastly, he runs into Brad again while picking up a late-night cup of coffee.

He senses something is wrong and stops by Milltown to check on her, but not before Lily does the same. Jack finds Carly upset that she can't be forgiven, but Holden can. They have a beer--per CarJack usual--as she confides her loneliness.

Carly runs into an exhausted Jack at Java and they engage in some light banter before she convinces him to come back to Milltown to rest. They have a heart-to-heart about Janet, but with undertones of CarJack. He receives a call from Paul re: a vision of the house Meg is trapped in, and Carly agrees to come along to Fairwinds and sketch it. As payment, Jack gives Carly a ride back to Milltown. Sparkage ensues.

Even though Jack says he's finished with both Carly and being a cop, he still keeps showing up at OPD and Milltown. He confides in Carly about James' reappearance and his working the Meg case. Then he asks Carly to tell Janet he's going out of town on the pretense of protecting Janet from knowing the truth. (Jack, kiss Carly on the LIPS, you tease.) Janet doesn't take being told by messenger well and calls Jack on his feelings for Carly, then lets Carly know she won (the competition they were apparently having).

Jack cutely convinces Carly to stay at the farm for a meal but Janet greets them. Carly flees in a cloud of awkwardness but rushes back--Jack has her keys. They have another loaded conversation (seriously, why else would the writers have Carly and Jack talking to each other about relationships?). Carly also continues to guiltily play relationship angel for both Holden and Lily and Jack and Janet. Jack gives Janet the "I can't go back there" speech about Carly...half of which is voiced over a lonely Carly coming home alone to Milltown.
