PUBLIC MEETING: The Government's Plan for Mosques and Madrassahs
28/4/2007 London - Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain addressed a packed public meeting in East London following Communities Secretary Ruth Kelly's announcement of plans for the Muslim community. Under the banner of fighting extremism she announced that the government hoped to see a British version of Islam. Taji Mustafa from Hizb ut-Tahrir's Executive Committee explained how the government were using this project to further the global war on terror. He explained that because the rise of Islam was proving to be an obstacle in the way of securing resources and interests in the Muslim world, the governments of the United States and Britain would use the excuse that Islam is violent and threatening to justify their continued intervention.
Dr Abdul Wahid, also from the Executive Committee, explained that the government hoped to use pressure from the Charities commission and department of Education to control these institutions. There has been some talk of changing the curriculum. They both gave clear messages of how the Muslim community had to unite and work in a constructive manner to solve our internal problems, otherwise the government would use more excuses to justify intervention.
Last week Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain distributed tens of thousands of leaflets addressing the same issue. In that they also commented that plans to establish government approved Imams, and government approved Islam was a way to silence Muslim voices, similar to how Ghulam Mirza Ahmed was promoted to pacify the Muslims when the sub-continent was under occupation. 'Who will they find to be the next Ghulam Mirza Ahmed?' was the question asked.

There has been much speculation about the source of leaked information in the high profile raids in Birmingham. The police have suggested it is the government whoa re spinning. Following the increased security concerns in Britain since July 2005 there has been a spotlight fixed upon the Muslim Community and its Islamic beliefs.
Anti-terror policies supposed to calm public concerns, instead seem to heighten them. Jack Strawís veil comments, John Reid asking Muslim parent to spy on their children, Blairís speeches on integration and the war on terror, or Cameron equating Muslims who want Shariah with the BNP- politicians are using a populist rhetoric which heightens mistrust and alienation. Media coverage does little to dispel myths, instead focussing upon maters that further polarise communitiesí with much reporting being misleading or exaggerated.
In this public meeting Muslim and non-Muslim speakers will address a community audience with their own views on the questions of why this climate has emerged and how the Muslim community can respond. Later there will be an open floor discussion.

Banned in many Middle Eastern states, Hizb Ut Tahrir is seeking the establishment of what they call the true Islamic state ( Al Khilafah ).
Freeing Muslim lands from corrupt leaders and Western capitalism is their first priority. Their political vision exists within a literal interpretation of the Koran.
In the past they have compared themselves to the French resistance, but mainstream British Muslims say their ideas are dangerous and their goals ludicrous.
As the people of Istanbul try to come to terms with the weekend's double suicide bombing, Tim Sebastian invites Hizb Ut Tahrir's British representative to condemn this action.

About Hizb ut-Tahrir
Hizb ut-Tahrir is a global Islamic political party that was established in 1953 under the leadership of its founder - the scholar, political thinker and judge in the Court of Appeals in al-Quds (Jerusalem), Taqiuddin an-Nabhani. Hizb ut-Tahrir global leadership is currently headed by Ata' abu Rishta.
In the Muslim world, Hizb ut-Tahrir works at all levels of society to bring the Muslims back to living an Islamic way of life under the shade of the Khilafah (Caliphate) State following an exclusively political method.

The party disseminates its thoughts through discussion with the masses, study circles, lectures, seminars, leaflet distribution, publishing books and magazines and via the Internet. We encourage people to attend our demonstrations, marches and vigils.
In the West, Hizb ut-Tahrir works to cultivate a Muslim community that lives by Islam in thought and deed, adhering to the rules of Islam and preserving a strong Islamic identity. The party does not work in the West to change the system of government, but works within the boundaries of the system.
The party also works to project a positive image of Islam to Western society and engages in dialogue with Western thinkers, policymakers and academics. Western governments, under the banner of the War on Terror, are currently working to present Islam as an 'evil ideology'. Indeed at the heart of this campaign is to malign the Islamic ideology as an alternative to Western liberal capitalism. Because of this propaganda aspect to the War on Terror, Hizb ut-Tahrir works to develop opinion about Islam in the Western countries, as a belief, ideology and alternative for the Muslim world.
