| Rotograph - Popeye the Sailor - 282 sec The rotograph, patent #2054414, was invented by animator Max Fleischer in 1936. Essentially an enormous, revolving, circular miniature set built in forced perspective, it enabled a fantastic sense of depth and parallax in cartoons produced by the Fleischer Studio in the 1930's.
The rotograph was used to enhance some of the Fleisher Studio's most popular properties, including Betty Boop and Popeye shorts. This montage comes from two Popeye cartoons, "Popeye the Sailor Meets Sinbad the Sailor" and "Popeye Meets Ali Baba and his 40 Thieves".

| Touching is Good - 150 sec One day I entered a contest to win a Game Boy and promptly forgot all about it. A few weeks later UPS delivered an unexpected package. I was disturbed to find nothing but a pale detached hand when I opened the box.
The hand was intended to be used in a video. Winning entries would be featured in some TV commercials I never saw.
I finished this animation long after the contest deadline. While animating, I realized that I already have plenty of Game Boys.

| Fortunate Fun Shapes - 71 sec Super 8 pixillation. I shot this with the tireless help of my close friend Evan Gage around 1990.
Pixillation is the technique of using actors with traditional animation techniques. Animator Norman McLaren may have created the term in the late 1940's or early 1950's, and his Neighbours (1952) remains one of the best examples.
