| Hillary Clinton ad rips off 1988 John Williams Olympic Theme - 18 sec
So when the March primaries were in full force here in Texas, we were inundated with that famous "3am phone call" commercial -- but being the theme song nerd that I am, I caught something peculiar at the end -- something I know all too well, as I am a huge John Williams fan and his legendary Olympics themes (as well as the NBC Nightly News theme) are in my occasional mp3 rotation :D ..
And so, I decided to cue up the bit of the 1988 Olympic theme that I find to be strikingly similar to a quick measure and a half of a campaign-theme-sounding riff at the end of the Hillary commercial. Not only is it the same little tune, but it's the same harmony, in the same key, in the same octave and with the same freakin tempo!
So, unless the Clinton kamp hired John Williams to compose her little theme and got lazy and copy/pasted a measure or two from his old works, I smell a catfish..

I was on this horrible show in 2002, and just watching the intro reminds me of a few things of note .. the canned audience, the window-less "pods", the horrible "tell us something bad or scandalous about yourself" interview question twisted into a brief 5 second intro from Kennedy to make the contestants sound like they have an unscrupulous side :p, and finally, the good old "Hometown:" in the little on-screen biographies.
On the questionnaire, they ask for the city you were born in -- I thought this was for some other official reason (social security/money-winning-related), but it turns out they use your answer to put on the screen as your "Hometown" because 99% of people that appear on GSN shows live in southern California, so they want people to think they have a great cross-section of folks from around the country when in actuality it's all Cali folk! Yet in my case, since I live in Texas, that didn't apply -- they put my birth city on the screen (I'm the 2nd one they show, from "Staten Island" apparently) :D, even though I only lived there until the age of 3. Not a big deal to me, I just found it funny when that aired.
My "partner" turned out to be the niece of Kenny Loggins, which I did not find out until I returned home from taping.
Upon introducing each team, Kennedy is made to present a short anecdote about how the contestant did something scandalous or untrustworthy in their lives -- and as you can see by the last guy ("he cut his roommate's phone line" .. scandalous!) they really had to reach.. Well, in my case, the story about stealing from the Roulette table is not entirely true. I attended UNLV in '93 and my friend and I devised a silly plan to distract the dealer and move a chip on the layout when the ball settled. We tried this only one time ever and succeed and we did not get busted. The producers thought it would somehow sound better if they said I got busted. Doesn't matter.. it's all silly poop. But that thar Hollywood's some smoke n' mirrors I tell ya!
Anyway, the only merit of the show was its theme .. which is featured near the end of the clip :p
