Quote from Lou Dobbs "America belongs to each of us, uncluttered and untainted by advertising images, media bias, and corporate greed. It is an America that is full of choices and one in which we take an active role in our community and in our nation. Unfortunately, I'm no longer sure that this is the America in which we live."
Broken Borders
The single most critical issue to protecting our nation is the securing of our borders and our ports. Every day, tens of thousands of containers enter our country from other nations and they're never inspected. At the same time, our government turns a blind eye to the thousands of people who illegally cross our borders. These scenarios exist because corporate America has convinced our leaders that this is one of the best ways to remain competitive.
Deadly Traps Set in Border Zone
Updated June 19th, 2008
Violence is on the rise against the brave men and women who protect our border. There were nearly 500 attacks against Border Patrol agents between October and March - 47 percent more than in the same period a year earlier. And now drug smugglers and human smugglers moving illegally in our border zone have turned to an insidious tactic--setting booby traps meant to maim or kill those agents. Most recently, the Border Patrol discovered a cord meant to clothesline agents traveling on ATVs.
Illegal Border Crossers 90% Successful
Updated June 17th, 2008
The news is alarming, but it's nothing different from what we have been reporting on Lou Dobbs Tonight for years: Our borders are wide open. Undercover agents attempting to illegally cross the U.S. http://i.cdborder had a stunning 93% success rate—easily crossing throughout our sparsely-guarded border zone and even at official checkpoints with incredible ease—according to a just-released Government Accountability Office Study. The response of Phil Fontaine, national chief of the Assembly of First Nations, to Prime Minister Stephen Harper's apology to residential school survivors:
Prime Minister, Chief Justice, members of the House, elders, survivors, Canadians, for our parents, our grandparents, great grandparents, indeed for all of the generations which have preceded us, this day testifies to nothing less than the achievement of the impossible.
This morning our elders held a condolence ceremony for those who never heard an apology, never received compensation, yet courageously fought assimilation so that we could witness this day. Wednesday, June 11, 2008
Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued a historic apology for more than a century of abuse and cultural loss involving Indian residential schools.
The Prime Minister acknowledged the government's role in removing and isolating children from their homes, families and culture.
Speaking in the House of Commons Harper acknowledged, "The treatment of children in Indian residential schools is a sad chapter of our history," "Some sought, as was infamously said, to kill the Indian in the child."
Harper continued, "This policy was wrong, caused great harm and has no place in our country,"
Residential school survivors from across Canada -- many wearing traditional clothing -- filled the House of Commons, which postponed other business for the day, to hear the Government of Canada's official apology, which began at 3 o'clock.
Close to 150,000 First Nations, Inuit and Mtis children were removed from their communities throughout most of the last century and forced to attend residential schools.
