Yanoviak served on the national AIA Steering Committee for Building Performance and Regulations and has testified at ICC, UBC, BOCA, SBCCI, and CABO hearings. He is the president of Environmental Systems Planning & Design Consultants......On the Buckminster Fuller Challenge: I'm all for it. I just hope I have time to work on it. I have had several ideas already that I've passed over and it's amazing the research materials I have in my files on the World Game and also trim tab, and I've had quite a bit of correspondence with Bucky. I do plan [on submitting for the challenge]. I have until the end of October. I hope I can do it because time is marching on rapidly and I'm involved in so many other things. It needs to be done. It's a great concept.
Friendship with Bucky: Every time Bucky was coming out here, his secretary Miss [Shirley] Sharkey would get in touch with me and let me know, and I would have a few minutes with Bucky at the Honolulu Airport or wherever was possible, so that's the way it worked. Bucky was a great architect, although many architects don't recognize him as such. He was a beautiful thinker, always working.
He wore three watches back in those days: one for where he was, one for where he was going, and one for where he came from. At the Honolulu Airport one time he told me, "Andrew, I'm going to take a little nap." The first time it happened I was really shook up. He said, "It's going to last around five minutes. You'll think I'm dead. Do not disturb me. I need to rest." And then he tells me: "When I wake up, I don't want to hear anything about anything we've been talking about. I only want to know three things: where I am, what time my next flight is, and what gate I go to. I don't want to hear anything else from you. I'll judge if I have enough time to talk to you." But he was a great person.

Samuel Howard Sloan (b. September 7, 1944), also known as M. Ismail Sloan, is an American author and former securities trader. He is also involved in chess, as a publisher of chess books and former member of the Executive Board of the United States Chess Federation (USCF). While having no formal legal training, he once orally argued and won a case in front of the Supreme Court of the United States. In July 2006, he was elected to the Executive Board of the USCF.
He has been married thrice and has eight children by five women. He once drove a taxicab in New York City. He is now a publisher of books and DVDs about chess, go and other subjects.
Sloan attended the University of California, Berkeley majoring in mathematics. At the time U.C. Berkeley was a center for student protest during the social unrest of the 1960s. Sloan became the president of the Sexual Freedom League. His book Sex Marchers, co-authored with SFL founder Jefferson Poland, called for sexual emancipation.
After dropping out of UC Berkeley, Sloan worked for two years for the Wall Street Investment Banking firm of Hayden, Stone & Co. in the over-the-counter trading department. In 1970, he established Samuel H. Sloan & Co., a registered broker-dealer primarily trading over-the-counter stocks and bonds. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) brought civil actions against Sloan & Co. in 1971-1975 alleging he had failed to maintain adequate books and records. In 1975, the SEC revoked Sloan's broker-dealer registration. After years of litigation, Sloan in 1978 prevailed in the U.S. Supreme Court. Sloan argued the case pro se even though he was not an attorney. The opposing attorney was Harvey Pitt, who was later Chairman of the SEC from 2001 to 2003. Sloan won before the U.S. Supreme Court 9-0. Sloan is the last non-lawyer to argue before the court.[1][2][3] Justice Rehnquist's majority opinion stated that "During this series of suspensions respondent Sloan, who owned 13 shares of CJL stock and had engaged in substantial purchases and short sales of shares of that stock, filed a petition in the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit challenging the orders on a variety of grounds. On October 15, 1975, the court dismissed as frivolous all respondent's claims, except his allegation that the "tacking" of 10-day summary suspension orders for an indefinite period was an abuse of the agency's authority and a deprivation of due process." The Supreme Court agreed.
Sloan has written an extensive and definitive lexicon of Khowar, a language spoken in Chitral, Pakistan. His first wife was a native of that region and they had had a daughter. Sloan was later locked into a prolonged and complex custody struggle for his eldest child.[4][5]

Ted Lewin grew up in an old frame house in Buffalo, NY with two brothers, one sister, two parents, a lion, an iguana, a chimpanzee, some monkeys, and an assortment of more conventional pets. The lion was given to his older brother, Donn, while he was traveling as a professional wrestler, and he shipped it home. The family kept Sheba in the basement fruit cellar until Donn returned and their mother convinced him to give it to the Buffalo Zoo.
Ted always knew he wanted to be an illustrator. As a child he copied the works of illustrators and painters he admired, including N.C. Wyeth, Winslow Homer, and John Singer Sargent. Their influences are evident in his signature watercolor style. When it came time to go to art school Ted needed to earn money to finance his education. So, following in his brother's footsteps, he took a summer job as a professional wrestler - the beginning of a fifteen year part time career that eventually inspired his autobiographical book I Was A Teenage Professional Wrestler, an ALA Notable book.
Ted's artistic career began by doing illustrations for adventure magazines, but for the last thirty years he has devoted all his time to writing and illustrating children's books. "I'm having more fun doing this than anything I've ever done before," he says. He and his wife, Betsy, are avid travelers and many of Ted's books are inspired by trips to such places as the Amazon River, the
Sahara Desert, Botswana, Australia, Lapland, India, Uganda, and Mongolia. Some of these books are collaborations with Betsy. Every summer the Lewins co-teach an MFA class at Hartford Art School.
Ted has garnered many awards including a silver medal and The Hamilton King Award from the Society of Illustrators and a Caldecott Honor for Peppe, The Lamplighter by Elisa Bartone.
The Lewins live in Brooklyn, New York in a hundred and twenty year old brownstone near Pratt Institute where they first met.
Betsy Lewin grew up in Clearfield, Pennsylvania. She always loved to draw and can't remember wanting to be anything but an artist. Her mother, a kindergarten teacher, is responsible for her love of children's books. She read to Betsy and her brother every night: Winnie The Pooh, The Adventures of Babar, Uncle Remus, and all the fairy tale books. The illustrators A.B. Frost and Ernest Shepard were among her earliest heros. Later on when she started illustrating for children, Betsy realized how strongly she'd been influenced by James Stevenson and Quentin Blake.
After graduating from Pratt Institute where she studied illustration, Betsy designed greeting cards. Then she began to write and illustrate stories for children's magazines. When an editor at Dodd, Mead & Company asked her to expand one of those stories into a picture book, Betsy says, "I jumped at the chance. I've been doing picture books ever since and loving every moment."
Betsy's art is usually humorous, drawn in pen or brush with watercolor washes, as in Click, Clack, Moo; Cows That Type, but she also paints in a naturalistic style as in Chubbo's Pool. Gorilla Walk is her first collaboration with her husband Ted and is about their trek to see the mountain gorillas in Uganda.
Many of Betsy's books have appeared on the New York Times Best Seller List and she has garnered many awards including a silver medal from the Society of Illustrators, and a Caldecott Honor for Click, Clack, Moo; Cows That Type by Doreen Cronin.
When not at work on their books, Ted and Betsy love to travel to exotic places around the world gathering material for new books. At home each of them has a studio in their brownstone house in Brooklyn. Besides the usual clutter of pencils and pens, paint tubes and brushes, drawing paper and, of course, books, they surround themselves with mementos of their travels: peacock feathers from India, Herero dolls from Botswana, Galimoto toys from Namibia and Brazil, digeridoos from Australia, postcards and snapshots, and countless stones and seashells and bits of cloth that transport them back to the lands they visited.

As Fox TV News commentator he presents progressive perspectives on world affairs. As anchor and founding parliamentary bureau chief of the Nine TV Network in Australia, Sanders was described by the country's leading political commentator, Alan Reid as "One of the few journalists who can recognize instantly the true political dynamics of any situation, whether it be a Georgetown cocktail party or an African Kraal."
His hosting of the live CNN coverage of the NASA shuttle missions won the Space Club Press Award, an honor shared over the years by Edward R. Murrow and Walter Cronkite. Sanders' CNN reports on alternative energy sources won the National Engineers' Award for Broadcasting Excellence. A later series of articles he wrote on the subject for Science Digest - including the first report on a new energy producing metal, Nitinol - were translated and republished by Japan Times in their annual selection of the world's best science reports.
His widely republished 1990 article "A Beginner's Guide to the BNL-BCCI Bank Scandal" was chosen by Project Censored as one of the top twenty stories of the year. It was later selected by Utne Reader Magazine as one of the top ten stories of the past ten years. Sanders' cover story for Whole Earth Review, "Age of Transparency" on the political implications of earth observation satellites was later anthologized with essays by William James, John F. Kennedy and Arthur C. Clark in the book, Securing Our Planet. Sanders has also written for The Nation, Futurist, Current, Horizons, Penthouse, Politiks, and newspapers and journals in USA, Europe, Japan and Australia.
As critic and commentator on ABC TV news in New York he often sparked controversy. Martin Scorcese once threatened to sue Sanders for his review of Taxi Driver. (However Scorcese later cast Sanders as the Duke in the film Age of Innocence.) In 1977 Sanders produced and hosted a widely transcribed and republished one-hour TV discussion on The Year 2000 with Margaret Mead, Herman Khan and William Irwin Thompson. In 1986 Sanders wrote and produced the Peabody nominated Footsteps of Giants, the first documentary for the newly established Fox Network - a one hour 25th anniversary TV special on the first American in space, for which he wrote the US President's introductory speech. The program was highly praised by the New York Times and is available on Pacific Video
In 1996 Sanders was the only journalist to cover the entire proceedings of the World Court hearings in the Hague on the legality of nuclear weapons. He later wrote, produced and hosted the Globalvision documentary on the hearings, The People vs The Bomb shown on PBS in New York and on national TV in Canada and Australia. In 1998 at Cambridge University in Britain he was the only journalist to cover the proceedings of The Planetary Interest conference.
Sanders has become increasingly active in NGO broadcast outreach at the United Nation. In 1997 as Chairman of the Earth Society Foundation, founded by Margaret Mead, Sanders hosted the first ever live webcast from the United Nations of the Earth Day Peace Bell Ceremony. At the ceremony Sanders proposed creating a C-Span of the UN - a continuing project. At the UN in 2003 Sanders produced and hosted a day-long international webcast forum on World Opinion: A New Superpower with a keynote address by Denis Kucinich. Later Sanders hosted a follow-up day-long conference on The Future of the UN at Seton Hall University with a keynote address from Walter Cronkite. Paul Pierog (not your president) was written using Wordspace techniques.
Paul started into comedy through playing with a few Wordspace language games and exercises. He first read some at an open mic hosted by Zero Boy at Symphony Space on the West Side of Manhattan on January 29, 2007.
He then got a slot in the New Word Works festival sponsored by the New York State Council for the Arts at Medicine Show, a theater in the Clinton (or Hell's Kitchen) area of Manhattan.
This led to one man shows presentations at Medicine Show and Collective Unconscious.
Paul initiated a Manhattan Neighborhood Network television show that runs alternate Thursdays at 8 PM on Channel 56 on Manhattan cable and on the internet at mnn.org.
He's started up a video blog at paulpierognotyourpresident.blogspot.com
He's beginning to develop Wordspace games as educational entertainments.
Paul is a Yale School of Drama alumni with a long background in acting, directing and writing.
His act includes spontaneous dancing to pop and rap music usually in the form of a live radio set to 2100 FM in New York City.
Paul Pierog. The first annual Festival of One: New York's (and perhaps the world's) Only One Show Festival is the "haiku of summer festivals" *.
The festival's sole show Paul Pierog (not your president) was selected to inaugurate the festival after a lengthy adjudication process by festival creator Aaron Beall (he co-created the New York International Fringe Festival and is known for his many theater festivals including the Hamlet Festival and the Obie award winning Faust Festival amongst many others). With Festival of One: New York's Only One Show Summer Festival he feels that the event is a "synthesis of all the festivals I have done".
Paul Pierog (not your president) is alternative comedy at it's edgiest and fringiest an evening of epigrams, short monologues, political fantasy, wild dances, stealth poetry, lip syncs and media commentary.
Sometimes its funny. Sometimes its not. It is however out there. Way out there. As out there as we at Paul, Inc, Los Burros Locos, Medicine Show, Todo con Nada, and the Festival of One: New York's Only One Show Summer Festival could get it.
Performance comedian Paul Pierog "plays" an American corporate executive--our unpresident-- dangerously unmoored from reality or perhaps he is just speaking the truth...
Paul Pierog is one of NYC's sharpest up and coming comedians and has been described as "The young Andy Kaufman" ** (He's 62) and a mash-up of "John Kerry and Frankenstein" ** and " a great dancer" **.
"If Al Gore and Marshall McLuhan had a love child it would be Paul Pierog (not your president)" **.
Paul Pierog (not your president) has been described "stand-up tragedy" **, "stealth poetics" **, as well as "Modern American Butoh Dance" **.
Strange and Funny. Disturbing and Weird. It is hopefully a show you will take with you for a long time after you experience it.
We look forward to your attendance.
A festival pass is $15 American and it entitles you to see any show in the festival.

...
Kindlon, however, was not 100 percent satisfied. "We still need to talk with more women before we can accept these priorities as truly representing all the community," he said at the close of the meeting.
...
"To do the work required in the village, we really need to improve access, so we can bring in supplies and equipment," says Kindlon.
It happens every year: by the end of your Thanksgiving meal, you swear you'll never eat again. By Friday afternoon, a little something to cleanse the system will be tempting. You can absolve your repentant self at Urban Spring, a juice bar and sandwich shop at 185 DeKalb Ave. in Ft. Greene, Brooklyn, just east of Ft. Greene Park. Call 718.237.0797 for hours.
Urban Spring is built around the belief that eating is a political act. This stance puts any restaurant in good company in Ft. Greene. Anna Lappe and Bryant Terry's book, Grub: Ideas for an Urban Organic Kitchen, debuted at Smooch, an organic coffee and vegan snack shop around the corner from Urban Spring, a few blocks east the restaurant Ici offers organic food and wine, and the solar-powered Café Habana Outpost is a but a few blocks south. Before establishing themselves in Brooklyn, Urban Spring's owners Gordon Kindlon and Consuelo Casarotto were political activists in many other contexts. The pair, who are now married, met in Afghanistan when Kindlon was a logistics officer for the UN during the elections there, having just left Amara, in southern Iraq, where he worked with Mercy Corps.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gordon Kindlon and Consuelo Casarotto take a holistic approach to their business that includes a thoroughly green shop design in addition to the healthful food and accoutrements like biodegradable utensils that you'd hope for in a simple gourmet-to-go eatery focused on locally grown and organic produce.
From the outset, the owners had an ambitious eco-design agenda for the store. In addition to hundreds of hours of hard work and dedication to the owners' vision for sustainable design, there were some uncanny breaks that made the peaceful and lovely space successful from an environmental point of view. Like the food, most of the ornate interior comes from local sources. The intricate medallion in the center of the sweeping counter looks like a Victorian detail from one of the brownstones in the neighborhood, as does the gothic pattern on the sliced up doors that are used as shelving. In fact, they're from the old Romanesque revival "Peace Church? on Washington Square Park.
Acting on a tip from a friend at the green living directory Vivavi, Kindlon went by the church as it was being demolished (yes, condos strike again), and came away with truckloads of gorgeous woodwork. With help from Associated Fabrication in Williamsburg and a floor plan by architect Peter Lynch, Kindlon cleverly assembled the church pieces into almost everything the store needed. Using a lamination method that recalls material pioneered by Brooklyn's own Scrapile, the church's old floorboards became countertops and seating.
The rigorously green building project also has a countertop from Icestone, a recycled glass product made a mile away in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and a kitchen backsplash made from a crazed tile that was given to Urban Spring by a local architect when a client decided not to use it. The color? Green, of course.
