| Detlef Schrempf - German Pride - 162 sec Detlef Schrempf (born January 21, 1963, in Leverkusen, Germany) is a former NBA basketball player.
Originally selected eighth overall by the Dallas Mavericks in the 1985 NBA Draft, Schrempf became a regular after being traded to the Indiana Pacers in exchange for veteran center Herb Williams. During his first few years with the Pacers, he was one of the NBA's best substitutes, winning consecutive NBA Sixth Man Awards in 1990 and 1991. In the 1992-93 season, he was selected to the first of his three National Basketball Association All-Star Games. He was the only player in the NBA in 1992-93 to finish in the top 25 in scoring (19.1 ppg), rebounding (9.5 rpg) and assists (6.0 apg).
Following the 1992-93 NBA season, Schrempf was traded to the Seattle SuperSonics for forward Derrick McKey and guard/forward Gerald Paddio. He was ranking second in the NBA in three-point accuracy during the 1994-95 season with a 51.4 three-point field goal percentage. During his tenure with the Sonics, the team became one of the most successful in the NBA. Schrempf became the first (and one of only two, to date, along with Dirk Nowitzki) German-born NBA player to reach the NBA Finals. While with the Sonics, Schrempf played in his final two NBA All-Star games.
He was released in 1999 and signed the same day by the Portland Trail Blazers, with whom he played until his retirement from professional basketball in 2001. Best known for his defense, the 6'3" Robertson played for ten years after being selected by the San Antonio Spurs with the seventh pick in the 1984 NBA Draft out of Crowder Junior College and the University of Arkansas. He also was a member of 1984 U.S. Olympic gold-medal team
In 1986, Robertson became the inaugural winner of the NBA Most Improved Player Award. This also marked the first of four National Basketball Association All-Star Game appearances for the guard (the others coming in 1987, 1988, and 1991). He also won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award in 1986.
Robertson still holds the top career steals-per-game average in the NBA, with 2.71 per contest over 779 career games. In 1985-86 he averaged a league-leading 3.67 steals per game, he was a three-time All-Star. Upon Issel's graduation in 1970 he signed to play basketball for the Kentucky Colonels of the American Basketball Association (ABA). In his first season, Issel led the ABA in scoring with a scoring average of 29.9 points per game, and pulled down 13.2 rebounds per game. He was named the ABA Rookie of the year in 1971, and was selected to the All-ABA Second Team. The following season, Issel raised his scoring average to 30.6 points per game, made the All-ABA First Team, and was named MVP of the 1972 ABA All-Star Game.
In 1975, Issel won an ABA title with the Colonels, who also featured sharp-shooting guard (and fellow ex-Kentucky Wildcat) Louie Dampier, as well as 7-2 center Artis Gilmore. After the Colonels' championship season Issel was sold by the Colonels' owners to the short-lived Baltimore Claws franchise and ended up with the Denver Nuggets for the following season.
Issel remained with the Nuggets following the ABA's merger with the NBA in 1976, and represented Denver in the 1977 NBA All-Star Game. He continued playing through the 1984-1985 season, and received the NBA's J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award in 1985 for his outstanding service to the community.
Issel accumulated over 27,000 points in his combined ABA and NBA career. At the time of his retirement the only professional basketball players to have scored more points than Issel were Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain and Julius Erving. After attending UNLV and having a successful college career, Theus was selected by the Chicago Bulls with the 9th pick of the 1978 NBA Draft. A 6'7" guard, Theus averaged 16.3 points per game during his first season and was the runner-up for the 1979 NBA Rookie of the Year Award. He garnered the nickname "Rush Street Reggie" while playing in Chicago for owning an apartment on that street and having an active social life around that area, being frequently spotted at the city night spots. He followed his stellar rookie campaign with a strong sophomore season, in which he averaged 20.2 points and 6.3 assists for the Bulls. In 1981, Theus appeared in his first All-Star Game; he appeared again in 1983, during a season in which he averaged a career high 23.8 points per game. Inexplicably, however, newly-hired Bulls coach Kevin Loughery decided to bench Theus for the first half of the 1983-1984 season, and Theus was soon traded to the Kansas City Kings for Steve Johnson and three draft picks, a move that saddened many Chicago fans who enjoyed Theus' enthusiasm and energy. Theus continued his impressive play during his tenure with the Sacramento Kings, averaging at least 18 points per game in each full season he played for them.
He ended his NBA career with productive one-year stints for the Atlanta Hawks (1988-89), leaving the league in 1991 with career totals of 19,015 points and 6,453 assists. Originally selected by the Portland Trail Blazers as the 11th pick in the 1982 NBA Draft out of Arizona State, Lever was considered one of the league's best point guards in the late 1980s while a member of the Denver Nuggets. Despite his size (6 feet 3 inches) he regularly led the Nuggets in rebounding. In 1987-88, he produced a memorable performance against the Chicago Bulls, with 31 points, 20 assists, 16 rebounds and 6 steals.
Lever was traded by the Nuggets to the Dallas Mavericks in 1990 for the Mavs' #9 pick in the 1990 NBA Draft plus Dallas' first-round pick in the following one. The Nuggets subsequently traded the #9 pick and their own #15 pick to the Miami Heat for the Heat's #3 pick in the 1990 Draft, with Denver sending the Mavs' 1991 first rounder (which was originally the Detroit Pistons' pick they acquired in the Mark Aguirre/Adrian Dantley trade) to the Washington Bullets along with Michael Adams, for the Bullets' first round pick in the 1991 Draft.
Lever did not play one second during the 1992-93 season due to injury, and finished his career in 1994, with career averages of 13.9 points, six rebounds, 6.2 assists and 2.22 steals per game. He is also the Nuggets' franchise leader in all-time steals and second in career assists, and is one of only three players in NBA history to record 15 plus points, rebounds and assists in a single playoff game (the others being Jason Kidd and Wilt Chamberlain). Among Lever's career achievements were making two NBA All-Star teams, an All-NBA Second Team in 1987 and an All-Defensive Second Team in 1988.
