Tokyo-based Artist Vivienne U.H. Doan is known for following her own vision. Intrigued by the correlation between social norms and the human psyche, for her latest project, she started investigating the subject of "Taboo"by researching the history, semantics and etymology of this word, which is widely used in various languages.
Moreover, Doan questioned Japanese and foreign people on what their definition of taboo is. Thoughts relating to public
behaviours, sex, violence and death are well represented in the spontaneous answers.
[Beau·ti·fied Ta·boo] is an exhibition featuring some of Tokyo's better known experimental and international artists, invited to showcase art works that explore and beautify taboos.
13 international Tokyo artists, underground and established, have been invited to showcase a multi-layered + multi-cultured world of taboos in beautified ways. This eclectic collection of controversial works of art will feature photography, film + video, fashion, performance art, architecture + a 'body sushi' live installation.
The interior of SuperDeluxe, Tokyo's premier art + design event venue, will be transformed to give visitors a theme-related + unexpected spatial experience.
