This is my first attempt at making a 32 line mechanical TV display using pretty much only:
=sound output from computer or CD player
=one LED
=Nipkow disc made from an LP
=motor from a cassette deck
This is using the modern hobbyist version of the Baird standard of 1920s and 1930s TV.
32 lines (240 for YouTube) is pretty bad, but capable of far better images then this.

| PXL-2000 tape-VHS drum spindown - 13 sec
Geeks will appreciate the irony of this! This is a video of an ordinary (VHS) VCR stopping. Almost all videotape formats since the 50's use a spinning drum with the video heads mounted on it. This creates a very high head-to-tape contact speed which is necessary to record large amounts of information on a slow moving tape.
This video was shot and taped on a Fisher Price PXL-2000. The irony of course is that the PXL-2000 does not use spinning heads! The PXL-2000 uses ordinary (high-bias) audio cassettes as its recorder. Even when running about 9 times normal cassette speed, this picture is about the best it can do!
