Lecia (Laban) - Hvis nu lykken findes - DMGP 1986 - STEREO - 201 sec
Watch this video in STEREO by clicking this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c17RR5wXX3w&fmt=18 (make sure you afterwards also click on 'Watch in high quality' under the screen) Lecia of Danish band Laban took in 1986 part in the Danish ESC pre-selection (Dansk Melodi Grand Prix) with a song called "Hvis nu lykken findes' (What If Happiness Exists). As it was one of my favourites from that year, I was sad it didn't win. Lecia wrote this song and the beautiful lyrics herself. When you listen to the song, you'll not be surprised Lecia is a huge ABBA fan.

J. P. West - Jimmy (Don't Need Me Anymore) - STEREO - 214 sec
J. P. West is a real Scandinavian with SCANDINAVIAN in capital letters. He was born in Norway, lives in Denmark and succeeded mostly in Sweden. J.P. West also took part a few times in the local Danish Eurovision Song Contest (Dansk Melodi Grand Prix/ESC), but never won. Here's J. P. West with "Jimmy (Don't Need Me Anymore)" from 1983. I must confess, that first time I heard this song, I thought it was a song about a gay couple.....until I saw the video and watched it to the very end (LOL). Funny song with funny lyrics.

Gry (Bo Andersen) - Endnu en nat - STEREO - 228 sec
In 1989 Gry again took part in the Danish pre-selection for the Eurovision Song Contest (Dansk Melodi Grand Prix) with a song called "Endnu en nat" (Yet Another Night). Gry won the Danish pre-selection in 1983 with "Kloden drejer" (The Globe Is Spinning), but in 1989 she only came #6 in the contest. The host, Jarl Friis-Mikkelsen, say at the beginning of the clip, that Gry (at the time) has a lot of success in Germany with her singing partner Bernie Paul. They had released 3 singles and been to 22 TV shows, he says. Internationally Gry called herself Bo Andersen, which also was the name she was know as together with Bernie Paul.

Tomas Ledin - Taken By Surprise - STEREO - 178 sec
In 1982 Swedish Tomas Ledin released his English album 'The Human Touch', which among others contained the hit 'Never Again' (duet with Agnetha Fältskog). This song was also released as a single. Tomas is also known for singing the background voices on ABBA's 1979 world tour, where he also sang a solo song 'Not Bad At All'. And to make it even more ABBA related, Tomas is married to Stig 'Stikkan' Anderson's daughter Marie. Here is Tomas with another song from his album 'The Human Touch'. The song is called 'Taken By Surprise', which he also recorded in Swedish, where it was called 'Sommaren är kort' (The Summer Is Short).

Watch this video in stereo clicking this link: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Bm89Zqp85A4&fmt=18 Then make sure to click the link below the screen: "Watch in high quality". ******************************************** Denmarks soul lady #1 is definitely Hanne Boel. She succeeded with the female group Blast, but in 1988 she decided to go solo and made a solo album called "Black Wolf". From "Black Wolf" was this song "Talk It Out", which was written by Thomas Helmig - a Danish singer/song writer, with whom Hanne also recorded the song as a duet and released it as a single before the album was out. But for - to me - some unknown reasons, Hanne put the song on her solo album without Thomas's voice. So, here's Hanne with "Talk It Out" from the Danish TV show "Hitlisten" from 1989.

Sanne Salomonsen - Uden dig - STEREO - 225 sec
Denmark's rock mama Sanne Salomonsen can also sing beautiful ballads - no doubt about it. Actually no one like Sanne can sing a ballad. Just listen to 'Misbrugt og forladt' (also on YouTube). Here's Sanne with 'Uden dig' (Without You) from her album 'Sanne' from 1989 - performed on the Danish TV show 'Hitlisten'.

The solo album was called 'Vinterdage' and from that album this song is taken. The song 'Holder øje med dig' (Keep An Eye On You) was performed on the Danish TV show 'Hitlisten' in 1989 too. Tommy Seebach - Du' det dejligste - STEREO - 228 sec
Tommy Seebach was one of the most popular singer/song writers in the 70's and 80's in Denmark. Tommy could write pop tunes - catchy pop tunes and he wrote song after song in those years for both himself and other artists. Tommy also competed in the local Eurovision (ESC) 8 times and won 3 of them. The last time he took part in the local ESC was in 1993 with the song 'Under stjernerne på himlen'. He won and came to the internationally ESC, where his song failed - really failed. It became the end of his career, as both his loyal fans and the press turned their backs to him. Tommy started to drink, got divorced and couldn't get a new recording contract. After years of drinking, he managed to get small jobs on bars playing his music. But in 2003 he suddenly got a heart failure and died only 53 years old. Tommy never got the respect he deserved the last years he lived. I have heard he became a bitter man, which is understandable. Here is one of my favourite songs by Tommy. It's called "Du' det dejligste" (You're The Most Beautiful) and has some of the best lyrics ever written in Danish. The lyrics are just SO beautiful and well-written and fits the music perfect. It's from a Danish TV show called Eldorado from 1983. R.I.P. Tommy

Laban - Meget bedre nu - STEREO - 94 sec
Laban - a Danish pop duo from the 80's had big success in Denmark with their Italian pop songs. Later on in their career they started to record in English and also became popular in many other countries. Laban consisted by two singers - a male singer Ivan Pedersen and a female singer Lecia Jönsson. Today Lecia is a successful jazz singer in Denmark and has totally dropped pop music. Here's "Meget bedre nu" (Much Better Now) performed on a Danish TV show called Eldorado in 1983. Unfortunately they only showed a short clip of the performance, so enjoy the 1½ minute it lasts.

Cliff Richard - Move It/Please Don't Fall In Love - STEREO - 652 sec
In 1984 Cliff Richard visited Danish TV show Eldorado, where he performed two songs and was interviewed. There's also a small glimse of the 'Living Doll' video. The songs Cliff performs in the studio are 'Move It' (in the 1984 version) and 'Please Don't Fall In Love'.

Masquerade - Guardian Angel - Danish TV - STEREO - 271 sec
The German duo Masquerade was on Danish TV show Eldorado in 1984, where they performed their smash hit 'Guardian Angel'. The composer of the song is Drafi Deutscher, who is also singing behind the mask. I have read he sings both voices and the other one just mime to Drafi Deutscher's voice. Drafi Deutscher has written many songs for other artists - among them Boney M's 'Belfast'.

Kirsten Siggaard & Tommy Körberg - Endnu engang - STEREO - 204 sec
This is a Danish/Swedish co-operation between Danish Kirsten Siggaard (known from ESC as Hot Eyes) and Swedish Tommy Körberg (known from ESC and latest from Benny Andersson of ABBA's band BAO). Kirsten only sings in Danish and Tommy sings the verse in Swedish and the refrain in Danish. The song "Endnu engang" (Once Again) is from 1989 and was also recorded in English. The English title was called "Once In Your Arms". Kirsten and Tommy had in mind trying their luck internationally, which failed though. This performance is from the Danish music show Hitlisten - hosted by Jørgen De Mylius. Thanks to Karina for some of the information.

Kiwi & Tess - Give Your Heart - STEREO - 194 sec
Kiwi & Tess (sisters) were a Danish female duo, who had a few hits around Europe - among them 'Show Your Love', 'My Heart Is No Liar' and the song you can see here 'Give Your Heart' from 1989. This song reminds me very much of a Stock, Aitken & Waterman composition. Kiwi & Tess were their artist names. Their real names are Susanne Wiik Kalvåg and Anette Wiik Vesterager. Today they sing gospel, which one can say is quite far away from their pop-image-days, but both girls have always been very religious.
