(July 18)SOT: Dennis Walcott, Deputy Mayor NYC, "it's my pleasure to bring to the microphone the star of this great show, America Ferrera, America?"A big day in the Big Apple for 'Ugly Betty' star America Ferrera. New York City and ABC threw her a block party: SOT: America Ferrera, actress: "It's so good to be here. I'm going to get emotional. (Begins to cry). We so love being back in New York City. I love standing here in front of this house on this block seeing these that 'Betty' was made for to be a representative of this community right here." The party was held in front of the Queens house on a predominantly Latino street - that serves as the 'Ugly Betty' home on the TV show - which features a Latino family. The party took place just weeks after the show began filming in New York, after leaving Los Angeles. It also took place just hours after Ferrera was nominated for a best comedy actress Emmy - which she won last year.SOT: America Ferrera:"I think this time I'm more relaxed about it and realize that it's mainly just a celebration, that you're lucky to be a part of this incredible community of artists and to be recognized is already a win." Speaking of winning - the 'Betty' cast says New York has already won them over: SOT: Ferrera: "I love how small Manhattan is. I love that you walk out your door and you don't know who you're going to run into or what you're going to see or what you're going to witness and to me, I love riding the subway and just watching people, it's my favorite thing to do.SOT: Ana Ortiz, actress: "I would have thought that the changes would have been subtle but they're not they're really electric. I think our set is really electric, our location times - we're doing out in the street - it makes such a difference we're not trying to dodge palm trees or tell people to take off their Lakers jerseys."SOT: Tony Plana, actor: "it's just so great just the last week and a half that I've been here to get up to New York newspapers and to read the newspapers, to take the subway, to get the train to interact with the people around me. I don't have to imagine it anymore. It's there for me to draw on." The block party was put on by ABC and city officials - announcing new programs that aim to bring more minorities, poor and veterans into the city's film and TV community. But there was also time for some dish about the upcoming 'Betty' season.SOT: Mark Indelicato, actor: .
