Rogier Rubens - Learnin' the Blues Description: ROGIER RUBENS (from 'Jazz Folios' (2000) "singer, musician, songwriter and composer from from The Netherlands, was only 5 years old when he became fascinated by american singer Rosemary Clooney and he managed to pursuade his dad, who was a keen jazz-pianist, to purchase her recordings, and other albums from Ella Fitzgerald and Rita Reys, to name a few. The songs that were actually meant to hit a mature audience struck him even at such a young age. Rogier: "Clooney had a big influence on me. She wasn't just 'another' singer singing a song, she was an artist who could put words and lyrics into a story, and children can associate with that immediately. You can't fool kids, Clooney once said. And a newspaper stated 'If the Statue of Liberty could sing it would probably sound like Miss Clooney'. -I think I learned from Rosemary Clooney. First of all, you have to understand a song before you sing it and you've got to live the composer's intentions. Because the audience has to understand every word, you must articulate well and emphasize at the right moment." Rogier Rubens, zanger, gitarist, componist, tekstschrijver van o.a. het nederlandse lied. Zingt en schrijft veelal liedjes van eigen hand in het Nederlands, Duits, Frans en Engels. Zingt ook pop & jazz. |
